The biggest differences are the body shape and the pickup. The ’51 has a ‘slab’ body without the comfort contours of later models, and it uses a single-coil pickup, which gives it a brighter, more focused punch compared to the warmer, thicker tone of the later split-coil pickups.

A 12-inch radius is flatter than the vintage-correct 7.25-inch radius. This makes string bending easier and allows for a slightly lower action without notes ‘fretting out.’ It adds a touch of modern comfort to an otherwise vintage-spec instrument.
