Product Description

A New Voice in the Taylor Family

Meet the Taylor 117e, a guitar that brings the rich, warm, and seasoned tone of Taylor’s Grand Pacific round-shoulder dreadnought to a whole new level of accessibility. This isn’t just another dreadnought. The Grand Pacific body shape, combined with innovative C-Class bracing, creates a voice that’s pure Taylor, but with a vibe all its own. It produces a powerful low end and a rounder, more vintage-inspired character. It’s a guitar that feels both familiar and excitingly new, perfect for players who want classic tone with modern playability.

Spruce & Sapele: A Classic Combo, Elevated

The magic starts with a solid spruce top, a legendary tonewood known for its clarity and projection. Paired with layered sapele back and sides, which provide a punchy and direct midrange similar to mahogany, the 117e delivers a balanced and articulate sound. The matte finish isn’t just for looks; it’s a thin coating that lets the wood breathe and resonate freely, enhancing the guitar’s natural warmth and volume.

C-Class Bracing & ES2 Electronics

Under the hood, Taylor’s C-Class bracing is the engine driving the tone. This asymmetrical, cantilevered design is a variation of the acclaimed V-Class system, boosting volume, sustain, and creating a truly impressive bass response without the muddiness. When you’re ready to plug in, the onboard Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics capture all that acoustic goodness. With three uniquely positioned sensors behind the saddle, the ES2 translates the guitar’s dynamic range into a clean, authentic, and full amplified tone, ready for the stage or the studio.

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Perfect for: Singer-Songwriter • Strumming • Flatpicking • Folk

Tone

  • Acoustically, it delivers a warm, seasoned, neo-vintage tone with a powerful, focused low-end and clear mids.
  • The sapele back and sides contribute a punchy, direct midrange that prevents the powerful bass from washing out the clarity.
  • Plugged in, the ES2 system provides a clean, articulate, and authentically full representation of the guitar's natural acoustic voice.
  • Responds beautifully to a strong strumming hand, offering plenty of volume and projection without losing note definition.

Playing Feel

  • The Grand Pacific body is comfortable to hold, offering the power of a dreadnought without the sometimes-boomy nature of square-shoulder designs.
  • Taylor's Standard Carve mahogany neck is renowned for its comfortable profile, making it easy to play for hours on end.
  • The matte finish on the neck provides a smooth, fast-playing feel that never gets sticky.
  • The 1-11/16" nut width offers a familiar feel for both chord work and single-note lines.

Versatility

  • Excels at everything from powerful strumming and flatpicking to more delicate fingerstyle arrangements.
  • The ES2 electronics make it a reliable and great-sounding partner for any acoustic amp or PA system.
  • In the studio, its clear and balanced tone records exceptionally well, sitting perfectly in a mix with other instruments.
  • The strong Taylor mids ensure it cuts through in a band setting, making it ideal for singer-songwriters and ensemble players alike.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The Grand Pacific is Taylor’s round-shoulder dreadnought. Unlike the squared shoulders of a traditional dreadnought, the sloped shoulders of the GP help produce a warmer, rounder low end. It seasons the notes and smooths out the powerful bass, giving you a more vintage-inspired, well-blended sound without the ‘woofiness’ some dreadnoughts can have.
C-Class bracing is a special asymmetrical design that acts like an engine for the guitar’s top. It allows the top to vibrate more freely, which dials up the volume and sustain, especially in the bass range. It’s key to the 117e’s ability to produce a powerful, focused low-end that remains clear and musical.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship same day in most cases and arrive within 1-4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
