Product Description

Iconic Dove Power With Stage Ready Clarity

The Gibson Dove Original is one of those acoustics you hear before you see. Long scale, maple back and sides, and that square shoulder body add up to a voice that is crisp, piano like, and huge in a mix, with just enough warmth to wrap around a vocal.

This one is serial 21195066 in Vintage Cherry Sunburst, and you are looking at the actual guitar you will get. It is the classic 60s Dove recipe, updated with LR Baggs VTC electronics so it sounds every bit as good plugged in as it does on your couch.

Sitka Spruce Top & Flame Maple Back And Sides

The Sitka spruce top gives you that immediate, lively response when you dig in, with plenty of dynamic range for fingerstyle or full strums. Pair that with flame maple back and sides and you get crisp, clear note separation and projection that carries to the back of the room.

Maple keeps the low end tight and controlled, so big open chords stay defined instead of turning to mud. Real talk, if you like hearing every string in a chord and you want your acoustic tone to cut without getting harsh, this wood combo hits that sweet spot.

Square Shoulder Punch With Long Scale Projection

The square shoulder Dove body adds a little extra air and warmth around each note compared to a small body, but it still feels focused and punchy. It is that rare balance where the guitar fills space without stepping on everything else in the mix.

The 25.5 inch scale length gives the strings more tension and snap, which means stronger projection, a taut low end, and great tuning stability, especially with capos and alternate tunings. Strum hard and it barks with authority, back off and it gives you a sweet, glassy shimmer.

Comfortable Rounded Neck & Rosewood Fingerboard

The rounded mahogany neck feels instantly familiar. It fills your hand enough to feel substantial, but it will not fight you on long sets or long studio days.

The rosewood fingerboard with a 12 inch radius and 20 standard frets makes bends smooth and chords easy, from first position cowboy shapes to higher up voicings. Mother of pearl parallelogram inlays are pure Dove vibe and make it easy to see where you are under stage lights.

LR Baggs VTC – Plug In And Go

Gibson spec’d this Dove with an LR Baggs VTC undersaddle pickup, so you do not have to fight thin, quacky acoustic tone at the gig. It tracks your right hand dynamics, keeps the lows tight and the mids natural, and lets the shimmer from the maple and spruce come through.

Soundhole mounted volume and tone controls keep the top clean and let you tweak on the fly without a bunch of knobs stuck on the side. Straight into a DI, acoustic amp, or a full pedalboard, this rig is built to be a rock solid, low noise stage partner.

Classic Dove Details That Turn Heads

Part of what makes a Dove a Dove is the aesthetic. Double antiqued multi ply binding on the top and back frames that Vintage Cherry Sunburst beautifully, and the gloss nitrocellulose lacquer lets the guitar resonate and age the right way instead of being buried in thick poly.

The Dove bridge, bone nut and saddle, Grover Keystone tuners, and that iconic Dove pickguard with inlaid mother of pearl dove and hand engraved, hand painted detailing are all here. It looks like a piece of history, but it is built to be played hard, night after night.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Maple is all about clarity, focus, and projection. On this Dove, the flame maple back and sides keep the low end tight and punchy while letting the highs shimmer without getting brittle. Paired with the Sitka top and long scale, you get a voice that cuts through a mix, keeps big open chords clear, and still has enough warmth to sit beautifully under a vocal. If you like articulate, piano like acoustic tone, this is your lane.
Yes. The photos on this page are of the actual guitar, serial number 21195066, that will ship to you. No stock glamour shots, no surprises. We weigh, inspect, and set up this specific instrument, so what you are seeing, reading about, and hearing in any demo is the guitar that will show up at your door.
Compared to a J-45 style slope-shoulder, the Dove’s square-shoulder body and longer 25.5 inch scale feel a bit more taut and immediate. You get a tighter low end, a little more top end snap, and a touch more volume and projection. The rounded neck carve still feels very comfortable and familiar, but the overall response is more focused and punchy, which a lot of players love for band work and modern worship settings.
Absolutely. The LR Baggs VTC is a go-to system for pros because it is quiet, reliable, and very natural sounding. It handles big stages, in-ear rigs, and studio sessions without falling apart or feeding back easily. The soundhole volume and tone controls make it easy to tame brightness or add a bit of warmth mid-song, and it takes EQ and compression at the board really well.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
