The Classic Gibson Dove, Reborn For Modern Players

The Gibson Dove has been a rock and roll staple since 1962. This Dove Original in Vintage Cherry Sunburst keeps that history alive with a big, balanced voice and modern stage ready electronics that make it a serious lifer guitar.

Sitka Spruce Top And Flame Maple Back For Chime And Punch

The solid Sitka spruce top gives you that familiar Gibson warmth and bloom, while the flame maple back and sides add focus, clarity, and extra cut in a mix. You get a rich, piano like low end, clear mids, and glassy top that never gets harsh.

A bone nut and bone saddle keep the string energy transferring straight into the body so the guitar feels alive under your hands. Real talk, this is the kind of acoustic that stays articulate when you dig in and still responds beautifully when you ease back.

Long Scale Power, Comfortable Round Neck

The 25.5 inch scale length gives the Dove a little extra snap and headroom, perfect for big open chords and alternate tunings that stay tight. The mahogany neck with its round profile fills your hand just enough without feeling bulky.

A 12 inch rosewood fingerboard radius and 20 standard frets keep bends smooth and chords comfortable all the way up the neck. It feels familiar and inviting, whether you are strumming hard, flatpicking lines, or working on more intricate parts.

LR Baggs VTC: Plug In And Own The Room

Factory equipped with LR Baggs VTC under saddle electronics, this Dove is ready for any stage or studio as soon as you open the case. The pickup delivers a natural, dynamic sound that lets the character of the spruce and maple come through instead of turning into quacky piezo tone.

Soundhole mounted volume and tone controls keep everything within easy reach but out of the way. You can fine tune your sound mid song without breaking the vibe or reaching back to your amp.

Vintage Cherry Sunburst Nitro And Iconic Dove Details

The Vintage Cherry Sunburst nitrocellulose finish is pure classic Gibson. Nitro lets the wood breathe and resonate in a way thick poly just cannot match, and over time it will age and open up even more.

The multi ply binding on the top and back, engraved Dove pickguard with mother of pearl inlay, rosewood Dove bridge, nickel Grover Keystone tuners, and Dove truss rod cover all hit that sweet spot of classy and unmistakably Gibson. At around 5.3 pounds it feels solid but never bulky on a strap.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Maple and mahogany are very different flavors. The Dove’s flame maple back and sides give you more top end chime, tighter lows, and a very clear, articulate midrange. A mahogany dreadnought leans darker and woodier, while this Dove cuts through a mix with more definition and shimmer. If you want your acoustic parts to sit on top of a band or track instead of getting lost, the maple Dove is hard to beat.
It does both really well, but its sweet spot is confident, dynamic strumming and flatpicking. The long scale and maple body keep big chord work clear and punchy, even when you lean in. At the same time, the Sitka top is responsive enough that fingerstyle lines still bloom and stay musical. If you switch between writing, solo performance, and full band work, this guitar will keep up without breaking a sweat.
LR Baggs built the VTC to sound like your guitar, not like a generic piezo. Plugged in, you get a clear, full range tone with plenty of body and air, not just brittle top end. The simple volume and tone controls in the soundhole make it easy to tame a boomy room or brighten a dull stage. Here is the lowdown: if you walk into a church gig, songwriter round, or theater show with this Dove, you are ready to go straight into the board with confidence.
The longer 25.5″ scale does add a bit more tension, which is part of why the Dove feels so punchy and controlled. With a proper setup and the right string gauge, it feels responsive rather than rigid. If you are coming from a shorter scale guitar and are worried about feel, tell us at checkout. We can dial in the setup and string choice so it plays exactly how you like before it leaves the shop.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
