Product Description

Vintage Vibe, Modern Craftsmanship

Straight from the Fender Custom Shop, this 1965 Precision Bass is a masterclass in low-end theory. Finished in a stunning Blue Agave with a Closet Classic treatment, it feels like a treasured instrument that’s been waiting decades to tell its story. The combination of a ’59-style alder body and a quartersawn maple neck with a AAA rosewood fingerboard is pure vintage Fender—delivering the foundational thump that has driven countless hit records.

Hand-Wound Engine

At the heart of this P-Bass is the Hand-Wound ’65-’70 P-Bass pickup. This isn’t just any pickup; it’s a carefully crafted engine of tone, designed to deliver that iconic, punchy midrange and warm, articulate low-end that sits perfectly in any mix. From gritty rock to smooth soul, this pickup responds to every nuance of your playing with dynamic, expressive power. It’s the sound you’ve heard in your head, finally under your fingertips.

Unmatched Playability

The neck is where you connect with the instrument, and this one is pure comfort. The ’60 P-Bass Oval “C” profile is a player favorite for a reason—it’s substantial enough to feel solid in your hands but slim enough for effortless fretting from the bone nut to the highest of the 20 frets. Paired with a 7.25″ radius AAA Rosewood fingerboard, you get a buttery-smooth playing experience that feels immediately familiar and inspiring.

Closet Classic Authenticity

The Closet Classic finish gives this bass the look and feel of a vintage instrument that was played, cherished, and then carefully stored. It’s got just the right amount of vibe—light finish checking and subtly aged hardware—without any heavy wear and tear. It’s the perfect balance of vintage cool and pristine condition, right down to the 3-ply tortoiseshell pickguard and vintage-style hardware.

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The Closet Classic finish is the lightest level of aging from the Fender Custom Shop. It’s designed to look like a guitar that was bought in ’65, played a bit, and then stored in a closet for decades. You get some light finish checking and lightly aged hardware, but no dings or heavy wear, giving it an authentic vintage look without the abuse.
It’s a really comfortable, classic profile. It’s not super thin like some modern necks, but it’s not a baseball bat either. It has a nice rounded feel that fills the hand comfortably, making it great for players who like a bit of substance to the neck for anchoring their thumb.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
Call us at (888) 794-8482. You’ll talk to a real musician who can answer anything you need to know.
