Product Description

Vintage Thump, Custom Shop Soul

This isn’t just a recreation; it’s a resurrection. The Fender Custom Shop ’58 Precision Bass channels the heart and soul of the instrument that laid the foundation for virtually all modern music. From the resonant body to the meticulously aged finish, every detail is crafted to deliver the feel and tone of a priceless vintage original, but with the flawless playability of a modern masterpiece. The Super Faded Chocolate 3-Color Sunburst isn’t just a finish, it’s a story of countless gigs and smoky sessions, all built into a bass that’s ready to write its next chapter with you.

The Neck That Started It All

The magic of a vintage P-Bass begins with the neck, and this one is pure gold. Carved from quartersawn maple for incredible stability, the ’57 Soft “V” profile is that perfect sweet spot, substantial enough to grab onto for marathon sessions, but without ever feeling chunky. The 7.25″ radius maple fingerboard and Medium Jumbo frets offer a familiar, comfortable playing surface that feels instantly broken-in, thanks to the expert Relic treatment. It’s a neck that feels fast, smooth, and ready for anything you can throw at it.

The Sound of a Revolution

At its heart is a single Custom Shop Hand-Wound ’57 P-Bass split-coil pickup, the engine of classic tone. This pickup is wound to capture the iconic P-Bass thump: a deep, resonant low-end punch with a growling midrange that cuts through any mix. It responds beautifully to your playing dynamics, delivering warm, pillowy notes for ballads and aggressive, gritty attack when you dig in. Whether you’re laying down a Motown groove or driving a rock anthem, this bass speaks with an authority that can’t be denied.

Artfully Aged, Built to Last

The Relic finish isn’t just for looks; it’s about feel. The nitrocellulose lacquer allows the alder or ash body to breathe and resonate freely, just like the originals. From the aged gold anodized pickguard to the vintage-style hardware, every component is selected for its authentic vibe and reliable performance. This bass has the soul of a road-worn warrior, but with the precision and reliability that only the Fender Custom Shop can deliver.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Spec-wise, this hits all the right notes: a select body, quartersawn maple neck, and a hand-wound ’57 pickup. The Relic treatment gives it that played-in feel, but with the consistency and stability you only get from a modern Custom Shop build. Plugged in, it has the woody thump and midrange presence you expect from a great vintage P-Bass.
The ’57 Soft “V” is a fantastic middle ground. It’s got enough shoulder to feel supportive for long gigs but it’s not as round as a U-shape or as sharp as a hard V. It fills the palm nicely and is considered one of the most comfortable P-Bass necks of that era.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship same day in most cases and arrive within 1-4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
