Product Description

Vintage P Bass Thump Without Vintage Headaches

If you live for that thick 60s Precision Bass thump but do not want to chase fragile museum pieces, this Fender Custom Shop 1964 Precision Bass Relic delivers the real feel, tone, and vibe in a stage ready workhorse.

Alder 59 P Bass Body With 60s Attitude

The alder 59 P Bass style body in Bleached 3 Tone Sunburst hits that sweet spot between familiar and uniquely cool. The relic treatment is not just about looks. The thinner, worn in finish lets the body ring, so you get that woody bloom and dry, articulate attack that sits perfectly in a mix.

Up close, the checking, dings, and wear feel like a bass that has done a thousand gigs, without the sketchy repairs or mystery history. Add the tort guard, chrome bridge and pickup covers, and you are looking at pure 1964 album cover energy every time you open the case.

Quartersawn Neck That Feels Broken In

The quartersawn maple neck gives you rock solid stability and a more alive feel under your fretting hand. The 60 P Bass Oval C profile starts at .790 inches at the first fret and fills out to .990 inches by the 12th, so it feels substantial without ever feeling like a baseball bat.

The unfinished relic back is the secret weapon. No sticky gloss, just a smooth, satin like feel that plays fast and relaxed whether you are digging in with fingers or sliding up for melodic lines. The AAA rosewood board, 7.25 inch radius, and medium jumbo 6150 frets make vibrato, slides, and position shifts buttery and controlled, with vintage clay dots keeping the look perfectly era correct.

Hand Wound 62 P Pickup For The Classic Voice

The hand wound 62 P Bass Relic pickup is where the magic happens. You get that thick, focused low end that locks with the kick drum, plus the classic P Bass midrange growl that lets every note cut without ever getting harsh.

Roll the tone back and you are in instant Motown and soul territory. Open it up and you get grind and grit for rock, worship, and modern country. The 59 P Bass control layout keeps things simple, and the pickup responds to every nuance of your touch, from soft thump to aggressive attack. Real talk, this is the sound most bass players are chasing when they say “P Bass.”

Vintage Correct Details With Player Focused Tweaks

Little touches make this one a serious player tool. The bone nut cut to 1.750 inches feels roomy for your fretting hand, and the 2.500 inch butt width gives you a confident platform up high on the neck. Vintage bass nickel relic tuners hold tune like champs, and the extra strap button on the back of the headstock gives you options if you like the way an old school over the shoulder strap hangs.

At 9.2 pounds it has enough mass to sound huge and focused without feeling like a boat anchor. On a strap it balances naturally, so three hour sets are no big deal. It is the kind of bass you stop thinking about physically so you can just lock in and play.

Custom Shop Craftsmanship, Built To Be Played

This is Fender Custom Shop at its best. Quartersawn neck, AAA rosewood board, perfectly rolled edges, clean fretwork, and period correct details everywhere you look. These are legacy pieces that feel like they have been in the family for decades, but they are built to live on stages and in studios, not just inside a case.

Photos are of the actual bass in our shop, serial CZ582478. You should have zero surprises when you crack the case and hit that first low note.

Dialed In By Moore Guitars And Ready To Ship

You also get free 2 to 3 day shipping, our 72 Hour Love It Guarantee, and the peace of mind that comes from a bass that has been inspected three times before it goes in the box. The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

This is Fender Custom Shop’s take on a 1964 P-Bass, built by some of the best in the game. You get period-correct alder body, quartersawn maple neck, AAA rosewood board, vintage clay dots, and a hand-wound ’62 P-Bass pickup that nails the classic sound. The big difference is reliability and consistency. You get the vibe and tone of a great vintage piece without hunting through a dozen old basses or worrying about hidden issues.
The relic work is tasteful and player focused. The body feels like an old friend, with smoothed edges and worn-in spots where your arm and hand naturally fall. The real magic is the unfinished relic neck back. No sticky gloss, just a fast, broken-in feel that makes long sets easier on your hands. Cosmetically it looks like a well-loved 60s bass, but structurally it is solid and new.
If you are used to classic P-Basses, this will feel right at home. At 9.2 lbs it has enough mass to deliver big, focused tone and sustain, but it is not painfully heavy. On a good 3″ strap it balances well and does not neck-dive. For most players doing club gigs, church services, or long rehearsals, this weight is a very comfortable sweet spot.
That extra strap button on the back of the headstock is a cool vintage-inspired touch. Some players like the way a strap routed up to the headstock changes the hang and angle of the bass, especially when sitting. You can ignore it and use the standard two buttons like normal, or experiment and see if the alternative position feels better for you. It is there for options, not obligation.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
