Hawaiian Koa Shimmer With Effortless Taylor Playability

If you love that rich, glassy koa chime but still need a workhorse acoustic electric, this Taylor 224ce-K DLX hits the sweet spot. It delivers lush, balanced tone, play-all-night comfort, and a stage-ready ES2 system in a guitar that looks every bit as good as it sounds.

Grand Auditorium Body With The Koa Voice

The Grand Auditorium shape is Taylor’s desert island body style for a reason. It is big enough to move air for full strums, focused enough to stay clear for fingerstyle, and comfortable whether you are on stage or on the couch.

A solid Hawaiian koa top gives you that lustrous midrange, sweet top-end sparkle, and just enough low-end warmth to keep everything balanced. The layered koa back and sides add stability and eye candy without making the guitar precious. Every chord blooms, every note has that woody, singing presence koa fans chase.

Slender Taylor Neck And Ebony Fingerboard

The tropical mahogany neck with Taylor’s bolt-on neck joint is all about consistency and comfort. The profile is slim and friendly, so complex chords and long sets feel easy on the hands.

Up top, the West African Crelicam ebony fingerboard is smooth and fast. It is the kind of board that makes slides feel liquid and vibrato feel effortless. Twenty frets give you the range you need, and the small diamond inlays keep things classy without shouting at you under stage lights.

ES2 Electronics That Sound Like Your Guitar, Only Louder

Taylor’s Expression System 2 is one of the few factory systems that players actually keep. The pickups sit behind the saddle so they hear the movement of the top, not just string quack.

Plugged in, you get a natural, open acoustic tone that takes EQ well and plays nice with pedals and modern PAs. Real talk, this is a grab-and-go rig. Guitar, cable, PA. Done.

Deluxe Details, Stage-Ready Build

Visually, this 224ce-K DLX is a knockout. The full-body gloss finish and shaded edgeburst show off the koa figuring instead of burying it. Black binding, pearloid rosette, black pickguard, and clean edge trim pull the whole look together.

Taylor gold tuners with polished bronze buttons hold tune rock solid. Nubone nut, Micarta saddle, black bridge pins, ebony headstock overlay, and the satin peghead finish all feel premium without being fragile. It ships in a Taylor deluxe brown hardshell case that is ready for the van, the bus, or the overhead bin.

Dialed In, Inspected, And Ready For Your First Strum

This exact guitar (serial 2201095322) weighs in around 4.6 pounds, so it feels light and perfectly balanced on a strap. The Venetian cutaway lets you get up to the high frets for melodic leads and chord extensions without fighting the body.

Here is the lowdown: photos are of the actual guitar, there is only one of this exact piece in stock, and it has already been inspected multiple times in our Evansville shop. It gets our free Player-Perfect setup, free 2-3 day shipping, and you can even take advantage of 0 percent financing and trade-ins.

You should have zero disappointments when you crack the case and hit that first big open chord.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Koa lives in a very musical middle ground. Compared to spruce, it has a slightly warmer, more mid-focused response with a silky top end instead of bright bite. Compared to mahogany, it keeps more shimmer and chime, especially on the high strings. When you dig in, chords have a chewy, musical midrange, and when you back off, fingerstyle lines sound glassy and three-dimensional. It is a great complement if you already own a spruce box and want a different flavor.
Layered koa is Taylor being smart about stability and price. The solid koa top is what really drives the acoustic voice, while the layered koa back and sides keep the guitar more resistant to temperature and humidity swings. You still get the visual impact of beautiful koa grain, the tonal character of a solid koa soundboard, and a guitar that is built to tour without babying it.
The ES2 is one of the least “quacky” factory systems out there. Instead of sitting under the saddle, the sensors live behind it, so they hear more of the top and less of the harsh piezo spike. Straight into a PA or acoustic amp you get a clear, open sound that feels like your guitar, just louder. A little EQ and maybe some reverb and you are mix ready, no outboard preamp required.
Absolutely. The Grand Auditorium body is a proven all-rounder for solo acoustic sets, worship bands, studio work, and writing sessions. It is comfortable enough to live on your lap, loud enough to fill a room, and the ES2 system makes it plug-and-play on any stage. If you want one acoustic that can cover a lot of ground with a bit of koa luxury, this 224ce-K DLX fits the bill.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
