The Iconic OM Voice – Balanced, Lively, Effortless

The Martin OM-28 is one of those acoustics that just feels right the second you hit the first chord. Auditorium body, solid spruce over East Indian rosewood, and that longer 25.4 inch scale all come together for a voice that is open, balanced, and ridiculously responsive to your touch.

Auditorium Body With Classic Spruce And Rosewood Tone

This 000-14 fret OM size hits a sweet spot for comfort and tone. The body sits closer than a dreadnought, so long sets feel easy, but you still get plenty of volume and low end when you dig in.

The solid spruce top delivers clarity and snap, while the East Indian rosewood back and sides add deep bass, rich overtones, and piano-like sustain. Strum it and the chords bloom, pick it softly and the guitar whispers every nuance back at you.

GE Scalloped Bracing For Vintage-Inspired Punch

Inside the box, the GE-scalloped X-brace in spruce is doing the heavy lifting. The 1/4 inch bracing lets the top move more freely, which means faster response, more air, and that addictive Martin shimmer on the high strings.

Real talk, this is the kind of bracing that makes a mic love you. The balanced lows, mids, and highs mean you can sit this OM-28 in a mix with hardly any EQ and it just works.

Comfortable GE Modified Low Oval Neck

The neck is Martin’s GE Modified Low Oval with a High-Performance taper, finished in satin so your hand slides without sticking. It feels fast without feeling thin, and there is enough meat to keep your left hand relaxed for long sessions.

Nut width is 1 3/4 inches, with the neck joining the body at the 14th fret, so it feels familiar if you are used to standard steel-strings. Chords stay comfy, single-note lines stay clean, and fingerstyle shapes fall right under your fingers.

OM Vs 000 – The Feel And Tension Difference

There is always confusion about OM versus 000. The bodies are the same size, but the OM’s longer 25.4 inch scale adds a touch more string tension and snap compared to the shorter 24.9 inch 000 scale.

If you are a little heavy with your right hand, or you like that extra headroom and projection when you dig in, the OM-28 hits that sweet spot. It still feels easy to play, just with a bit more cut and control under the pick.

Fingerstyle, Flatpicking, Or Studio Work – It Does It All

Whether you are flatpicking lines, Travis picking, or backing up your voice, this OM is a killer all-rounder. The response is even string to string, so complex chords stay clear and melody notes sit right on top without getting lost.

Put a mic in front of it and you will see why OM-28s are studio favorites. Minimal EQ, natural balance, and a tone that translates exactly what your hands are doing. It is a great “translator” between your touch and the listener’s ears.

Refreshed Standard Series Comfort With Vintage Soul

This OM-28 is part of Martin’s refreshed Standard Series, with Sitka spruce GE top bracing borrowed from the Modern Deluxe line. You get that vintage-inspired tone and sustain, but with updated playability and feel.

The thinner fingerboard, refined bridge and heel work, bold herringbone top inlay, antique white binding, and aging toner on the top all add up to a guitar that looks like a classic but feels like a modern instrument in your hands.

Player-Ready Setup, Plek’d, And Protected

This specific guitar is Plek’d, so the fretwork is dialed in for clean notes and buzz-free action across the board. Our techs also give it a full Player-Perfect setup before it leaves the shop, tailored to your preferred gauge and action.

It ships in a molded hardshell case, photos are of the actual guitar, and you are covered with our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee and Price Match Guarantee. We also take trade-ins, so it is easy to move up to a lifetime OM.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Great question. The OM and 000 share the same 000-14 fret body, but the OM has a longer 25.4″ scale compared to the 24.9″ 000. That extra length adds a touch more string tension, snap, and headroom, which many players who dig in with their right hand really appreciate. Tonally, the OM-28 feels a bit brighter and more defined, while still giving you the lush rosewood lows and overtones that make this model a classic.
Absolutely. The combination of the OM body, spruce top, and East Indian rosewood back and sides gives you a very balanced response string-to-string. Fingerstyle players get clarity and separation, while flatpickers get enough punch and projection to cut through without sounding harsh. It is one of those rare acoustics that can comfortably live as your only guitar in the rack.
This OM-28 takes the timeless recipe and adds some smart updates. Sitka spruce GE top bracing, borrowed from the Modern Deluxe line, brings vintage-inspired tone and sustain. The neck profile, fingerboard, bridge, and heel have been refined for better comfort and playability. You still get the aging toner, bold herringbone, antique white binding, and classic 28-style appointments, but with a feel that is very dialed in for modern players.
Yes. This OM-28 has been Plek’d for precise fretwork, which means clean notes, comfortable action, and great intonation up and down the neck. On top of that, our techs give it a full Player-Perfect setup before it ships. Tell us your preferred string gauge and action, and we will dial it in so it feels like a custom shop piece the moment you crack the case.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
