Product Description

A Custom Shop ’59 with Jaw-Dropping Looks and Tone

This isn’t just another semi-hollowbody—this is a top-of-the-line Gibson Custom Shop 1959 ES-355 Reissue, a guitar that represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship and tone. Finished in a stunning, road-ready Blue Metallic, this M2M (Made to Measure) build is a meticulous recreation of a golden-era classic, built for the player who demands the absolute best. From the authentic ’59 C-shape neck profile to the unpotted CustomBucker pickups, every detail is engineered for pure, vintage-inspired performance.

Authentic ’59 Construction

The foundation of this ES-355’s incredible voice is its period-correct construction. A 3-ply Maple/Poplar/Maple laminate body is paired with a solid maple centerblock, delivering that perfect blend of airy resonance and feedback resistance that made the original a legend. The neck is solid mahogany, topped with a gorgeous, slick ebony fingerboard and adorned with mother-of-pearl block inlays for a buttery-smooth playing feel and a look of pure class.

Dynamic CustomBucker Voice

Plug it in, and you’ll hear why players obsess over Gibson’s CustomBucker Alnico 3 pickups. They’re articulate, touch-sensitive, and unpotted—just like the originals—delivering a universe of tonal possibilities. They can serve up warm, glassy jazz tones, gritty blues, and screaming rock leads with equal authority. The gold hardware, from the Grover tuners to the ABR-1 bridge and lightweight stop bar, ensures rock-solid stability and sustain that rings for days.

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Perfect for: Blues • Jazz • Rock • Fusion

Tone

  • Gritty, articulate, and rich with harmonic overtones—perfect for biting leads and crunchy rhythm.
  • Warm, round, and vocal-like, delivering classic jazz and blues tones with incredible depth.
  • Open, chimey, and balanced, offering a sweet spot for clean chords and funky rhythm work.
  • Responds instantly to your pick attack, cleaning up beautifully with a lighter touch and snarling when you dig in.

Playing Feel

  • Perfectly balanced, making it comfortable for long gigs and studio sessions.
  • The '59 C-shape neck has a substantial, vintage feel that's incredibly comfortable, while the ebony board is slick and fast.
  • The semi-hollow body resonates against you, creating a lively, connected playing experience.
  • Effortless string bending and a smooth, low action make this a guitar you can play all night without fatigue.

Versatility

  • Goes from pristine clean to raw, overdriven tones just by working the volume and tone knobs.
  • Loves pedals, providing a rich tonal canvas for everything from transparent overdrives to saturated fuzz.
  • A studio dream, offering a wide range of classic sounds that sit perfectly in a professional mix.
  • Cuts through a dense band mix without sounding harsh, thanks to its powerful midrange and articulate highs.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Unpotted pickups, like the ones in this ’59 reissue, are more historically accurate and offer a more dynamic, open, and airy tone. They are incredibly touch-sensitive and can be more prone to microphonic feedback at very high volumes, but that’s part of the magic—they bloom and react to your playing in a way that potted pickups just can’t match.
This guitar was built with a special cutout in the maple centerblock to accommodate a Varitone circuit, a feature often found on high-end ES models. While this specific build has a mono configuration, the specialized construction is a cool, authentic detail that speaks to its Custom Shop lineage.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
Call us at (888) 794-8482. You’ll talk to a real musician who can answer anything you need to know.
