The Soul of a 335, in a Player-Friendly Package
Ever love the sound of a classic semi-hollow but wished it was just a bit more comfortable? Gibson heard you. The ES-339 is the answer, delivering all the airy resonance and warm, woody tone of its legendary bigger brother in a streamlined body that feels right at home. This isn’t a student model; it’s a professional workhorse that combines vintage Gibson soul with modern ergonomics.
Vintage Voice: ’57 Classic Humbuckers
The heart of this guitar’s tone comes from a perfectly calibrated set of Gibson ’57 Classic pickups. The neck position is loaded with a ’57 Classic, known for its smooth, creamy, and articulate voice that’s perfect for soulful leads or warm jazz chords. In the bridge, a ’57 Classic Plus is slightly overwound for more bite, grit, and punch, driving your amp with that legendary PAF-style growl. From glassy cleans to gritty blues, this setup is pure Gibson gold.
Effortless Playability
The magic of the ES-339 lies in its feel. The 3-ply maple/poplar body is lighter and more manageable than a traditional ES-335, making it perfect for long gigs and dynamic stage performance. The Mahogany neck is carved into a comfortable Rounded ‘C’ profile that feels substantial and familiar, while the hand-rolled Rosewood fingerboard edges provide a smooth, broken-in feel right out of the case.
Built to Perform
Gibson equipped the ES-339 with rock-solid hardware to ensure it’s ready for the stage and studio. An ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and Aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece anchor the strings for maximum resonance and sustain. Up top, Grover Rotomatic tuners keep your tuning stable through the heaviest playing. It’s all finished in a gorgeous gloss nitrocellulose lacquer that will only get better with age.
