Product Description

The Tuxedo. The Legend. The Les Paul Custom.

There are few guitars as iconic as the Les Paul Custom. Dressed in a classic Ebony finish with brilliant gold hardware, it’s a visual statement before you even play a note. But plug it in, and you’re met with a sound that’s defined decades of music. This Gibson Custom Shop creation isn’t just a reissue; it’s a masterfully crafted instrument built for the modern player who demands the absolute best in tone, feel, and style. It’s the pinnacle of Gibson craftsmanship—a true player’s piece with a legacy to match.

Legendary Tone Woods & Construction

The foundation of the Les Paul Custom’s voice is its tonewood combination. A solid, 1-piece mahogany body provides the warmth, depth, and endless sustain you expect, while the maple top adds a layer of clarity, snap, and definition that keeps your notes articulate. The long tenon neck joint ensures maximum resonance and energy transfer between the solid mahogany neck and the body, creating a single, lively instrument that feels alive in your hands. The whole guitar is finished in a thin, gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, allowing the wood to breathe and resonate freely.

The Feel of Effortless Power

The neck is where the magic happens, and this Custom delivers. The Modern Medium C profile is a comfortable, intuitive shape that feels substantial without being cumbersome, perfect for both chording and complex lead work. Your fingers will fly across the solid Ebony fingerboard—a treasured feature known for its glassy-smooth feel and the crisp, piano-like attack it lends to every note. With 22 medium-jumbo frets and a 12″ radius, bends are buttery, vibrato is expressive, and playability is simply off the charts.

Potent, Versatile Electronics

This Custom is loaded with a perfectly matched set of Gibson humbuckers: a 490R in the neck and a 498T in the bridge. The 490R serves up warm, classic PAF-style tones with incredible clarity, perfect for rhythm playing or smooth, vocal-like leads. Kick over to the 498T, and you unleash a hotter, more aggressive voice with a pronounced upper-midrange bite that cuts through any mix. The hand-wired harness with 500K CTS pots ensures that your volume and tone controls are responsive and musical, cleaning up beautifully as you roll them back.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Great question. The ebony board is a key part of the Custom’s sound. Compared to rosewood, it’s a denser wood, which adds a certain snap and clarity to the attack of each note. It gives you a really articulate, piano-like quality on the top end that cuts through a mix beautifully, especially when paired with the warmth of the mahogany body.
Think of them as a classic voice and a modern, hotter voice. The 490R in the neck is voiced like a vintage PAF for that warm, creamy, and clear humbucker sound. The 498T in the bridge uses a hotter magnet and is wound for more output and a stronger midrange punch. It’s more aggressive and perfect for driving an amp into overdrive, while the 490R is ideal for cleaner, smoother tones.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
