Product Description

The Holy Grail: A Legend Reborn

This isn’t just a reissue; it’s a time machine. The Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Standard is the benchmark—the result of a fanatical obsession with getting every single detail right. From the chemically-recreated plastics to the period-correct hide glue construction, this is the closest you can get to holding a priceless original. The Iced Tea Burst finish lets the stunning 2-piece figured maple top breathe and shimmer, with a gentle VOS patina that gives it the soulful look of a cherished instrument from day one.

Authentic Tone & Feel

The magic of a ’59 is in the marriage of tonewoods and electronics. It starts with a solid, lightweight 1-piece mahogany back—no weight relief here, just pure, unadulterated resonance. The top is 2-piece figured maple, attached with hide glue for maximum tonal transfer. That coveted ’59 neck profile, a substantial but incredibly comfortable ’50s Rounded Medium C, feels like coming home. It’s carved from solid mahogany with a long tenon joint, another critical piece of the sustain puzzle.

The Voice of Rock and Roll

At the heart of this beast is a pair of unpotted Custombucker Alnico 3 pickups. These are Gibson’s most historically accurate PAF replicas, delivering all the warmth, bite, and complexity that made the originals legendary. Wired up with CTS 500K audio taper pots and paper-in-oil capacitors, the controls are incredibly responsive, letting you roll back for glassy cleans or push forward for that iconic Les Paul grind. Every detail, from the Kluson single-line tuners to the lightweight aluminum stop bar, is a testament to the golden era of guitar building.

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Perfect for: Blues • Classic Rock • Hard Rock • Jazz

Tone

  • Bridge pickup delivers raw, articulate bite with a throaty midrange and airy highs.
  • Neck pickup is warm, vocal, and bluesy—perfect for buttery leads and rich chords.
  • The middle position offers that classic, slightly hollowed-out PAF quack with gorgeous bloom.
  • Responds instantly to your pick attack; dig in for aggressive grit or play soft for sweet, clean tones.

Playing Feel

  • The lightweight mahogany body is comfortable and resonant against the player.
  • The '50s Rounded Medium C neck has a substantial, satisfying feel that's still easy to navigate.
  • Notes leap off the Indian rosewood fingerboard with exceptional sustain and clarity.
  • A masterfully crafted instrument that feels broken-in right out of the case, ready for hours of play.

Versatility

  • Cleans up beautifully with the volume knob, offering a huge range of tones without touching your amp.
  • Loves pedals, providing a rich, harmonic foundation for fuzz, overdrive, and delay.
  • Sits perfectly in a studio mix, with a powerful voice that cuts through without being harsh.
  • The quintessential sound for everything from smoky jazz clubs to stadium rock stages.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The VOS finish isn’t a heavy relic. Think of it as a guitar that was bought in 1959, played lovingly, and then stored carefully for decades. The nitrocellulose lacquer has a lower gloss, and the nickel hardware has a slight patina. It feels less like a brand new guitar and more like a beautifully preserved vintage instrument, with a smooth, non-sticky feel right away.
It’s incredibly accurate. Gibson 3D-scanned multiple priceless original ’59 Bursts to create this profile. It’s a comfortable C-shape with some heft—not a baseball bat, but with enough substance to really grab onto for big bends and chords. It’s considered by many to be the perfect Les Paul neck profile.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
