Product Description

A Vintage Soul with a Modern Growl

This isn’t just another Les Paul; it’s a meticulously crafted instrument from the Gibson Custom Shop, given the full Murphy Lab treatment to feel like a guitar that’s seen decades of stages. The Heavy Aged Double Washed Cherry finish isn’t just relic’d, it’s artfully distressed, with the kind of authentic checking and player wear that tells a story from the moment you open the case. This Made-2-Measure ’58 combines vintage accuracy with player-centric upgrades for a truly unique experience.

The Voice of Rock Royalty

At the heart of this Les Paul is a powerhouse pickup set: a Seymour Duncan APH-2n Alnico II Pro Slash in the neck and its uncovered APH-2b counterpart in the bridge. This is the sound that defined a generation of rock. The neck pickup is warm, vocal, and sings with buttery sustain, perfect for articulate solos and rich, clean chords. Switch to the bridge, and you unleash a raw, punchy attack with plenty of grit and harmonic complexity that cuts through any mix without sounding harsh. It’s pure, unapologetic rock and roll tone.

Legendary ’59 Feel

While it’s a ’58 model, the neck is where the custom magic happens. This guitar features the highly sought-after R9 V1 Carmelita neck profile. Scanned from a legendary original Burst, it has a substantial yet incredibly comfortable feel that fills the hand perfectly. The shoulders are slightly softened, making it feel broken-in and fast, encouraging you to dig in for hours. Paired with a smooth rosewood fingerboard and historic narrow tall frets, it delivers an effortless playing experience that feels both vintage and precise.

Artisan Crafted, Player Perfect

Every detail of this instrument was chosen for tone and feel. The body features a handpicked maple top on a handpicked mahogany back, a classic recipe for resonance and sustain. The hardware is all heavy-aged nickel, from the Kluson Deluxe tuners to the no-wire ABR-1 bridge, completing the authentic vintage aesthetic. This is a guitar built not just to be looked at, but to be played, loved, and heard.

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Perfect for: Classic Rock • Blues Rock • Hard Rock • Southern Rock

Tone

  • Bridge pickup delivers a raw, mid-focused punch with gritty overdrive and articulate highs.
  • Neck pickup offers a warm, vocal, and exceptionally clear tone with a smooth, buttery sustain.
  • The middle position is balanced and open, blending the neck's warmth with the bridge's bite for killer rhythm tones.
  • Responds beautifully to your picking dynamics; cleans up with a light touch and snarls when you dig in.

Playing Feel

  • Feels solid and resonant, with the balance you'd expect from a classic Les Paul.
  • The Carmelita neck profile is a dream; substantial enough for big bends but with relaxed shoulders for comfort.
  • Vibrates against your body as you play, a sign of a truly resonant, high-quality instrument.
  • A guitar that invites long playing sessions, feeling like an old friend right out of the case.

Versatility

  • Excels at everything from glassy cleans to full-throttle distortion, all with a distinct vintage character.
  • Takes pedals like a champ, providing a rich tonal foundation for your favorite drives and effects.
  • Records like a dream, sitting perfectly in a mix with minimal EQ needed.
  • Has the authority to lead a track but the sensitivity to sit back in a rhythm section.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The Murphy Lab Heavy Aged finish is about more than just looks; it’s about feel. Tom Murphy’s team has scientifically analyzed and artistically recreated the exact lacquer checking and wear patterns of priceless vintage Gibsons. This process results in a guitar that not only looks like it has a lifetime of stories, but also has the comfortable, worn-in feel of an old friend.
The Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Slash set was designed to replicate the tone of the legendary guitar on ‘Appetite for Destruction.’ Compared to modern Burstbuckers, they have a slightly sweeter top end, a more pronounced vocal midrange, and a spongier low end thanks to the Alnico II magnets. They offer a bit more output and growl than a vintage PAF, making them perfect for classic and hard rock.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship same day in most cases and arrive within 1-4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
