Product Description

A Golden-Era Relic, Reborn

This isn’t just another Les Paul; it’s a meticulously crafted homage to the most revered electric guitars ever made, brought to life by the Gibson Custom Shop and the master artisans at the Murphy Lab. This Made 2 Measure 1958 Les Paul Standard, finished in a breathtaking Golden Poppy Burst, captures the spirit, feel, and tone of a genuine vintage instrument. The Light Aged finish by the Murphy Lab gives it the authentic patina of a guitar that’s been played and cherished for decades, with subtle lacquer checking and softened edges that feel instantly familiar.

The Heart of the Tone

At the core of this Les Paul’s voice is a pair of unpotted Custombucker Alnico 3 pickups. These pickups are the closest Gibson has come to recreating the legendary PAF humbuckers of the late 50s. They deliver a sound that is both articulate and warm, with a rich harmonic complexity that blooms with every note. From glassy cleans to gritty, overdriven roar, these pickups respond to your every touch with incredible dynamic range.

Unmatched Feel and Playability

The neck is where you truly connect with an instrument, and this one is special. It features the acclaimed ‘V1 Carmelita’ R9 neck profile, a comfortable and substantial shape that fills the hand perfectly without feeling cumbersome. Combined with a beautiful rosewood fingerboard and medium jumbo frets, it offers a buttery-smooth playing experience that invites you to explore every inch of the neck. The handpicked maple top on a solid mahogany body provides the timeless resonance and sustain that made the Les Paul a legend.

Authentic Down to the Details

Every element of this guitar has been thoughtfully selected to replicate the vintage experience. From the lightly aged nickel hardware and Kluson Deluxe tuners to the historic ABR-1 bridge and aluminum stop bar tailpiece, the details are period-correct. The use of aniline dye for the back and neck, true historic cream plastics, and gold top hat knobs completes the package, making this guitar a true masterpiece of craftsmanship and tone.

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Perfect for: Blues • Classic Rock • Hard Rock • Jazz

Tone

  • The bridge Custombucker delivers classic PAF bite and top-end chime, cutting through a mix with authority and harmonic richness.
  • In the neck position, you'll find warm, vocal-like tones with incredible clarity and bloom, perfect for soulful leads and full-bodied chords.
  • The middle position offers a beautifully scooped, funky tone with exceptional string-to-string definition.
  • Being unpotted, the pickups are incredibly responsive to picking dynamics and volume knob adjustments, cleaning up beautifully or screaming when you dig in.

Playing Feel

  • The solid mahogany body provides the sustain and heft Les Pauls are famous for, feeling substantial and resonant against your body.
  • The Carmelita neck profile is a dream, offering a comfortable handful that supports complex chording and single-note runs equally well.
  • This guitar feels alive in your hands. The light aging and thin nitro finish create a smooth, broken-in feel that's a joy to play.
  • Its classic design and expert setup make it a workhorse for long gigs or studio sessions, minimizing fatigue and maximizing inspiration.

Versatility

  • Excels at everything from warm, clean jazz tones to the raw power of classic rock and blues.
  • The unpotted pickups interact beautifully with overdrive and fuzz pedals, revealing new layers of texture and harmonic content.
  • In the studio, it's a chameleon. It can provide a powerful rock foundation or sit perfectly in a denser mix with its articulate voice.
  • Its rich midrange and clear highs ensure it always has a strong presence in any musical setting.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The Murphy Lab, led by master artisan Tom Murphy, uses proprietary techniques to perfectly replicate the natural aging process of vintage Gibson guitars. The Light Aged finish on this Les Paul features authentic lacquer checking and softened hardware patina, giving it the look and feel of a well-cared-for instrument from the 1950s without excessive wear and tear.
The R9 V1 Carmelita neck is a highly sought-after profile based on a specific ’59 Les Paul. It’s a full-feeling neck, but not overly large. It starts at about 0.860 inches at the first fret and tapers to 0.975 inches at the 12th, providing a comfortable, substantial grip that many players find ideal for both chording and lead playing.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship same day in most cases and arrive within 1-4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
