Product Description

A Modern Rock Icon in a Stunning Finish

There are few guitars as iconic as the Gibson SG. From the moment it hit the scene, its devil-horn double cutaways, lightweight mahogany body, and aggressive tone became the standard for rock, blues, and punk. This pre-owned 2022 SG Standard is a prime example of that legacy, but with a killer twist—the absolutely stunning Silver Mist gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish. It’s a real head-turner that sounds even better than it looks, delivering the classic SG bite and sustain you’d expect, but with the feel of a guitar that’s already broken in.

Modern Classic Humbuckers

The heart of this SG’s voice comes from a calibrated pair of Gibson 490R and 490T humbuckers. The 490R in the neck is voiced for warmth and richness—perfect for buttery lead lines and full-bodied rhythm sounds. In the bridge, the 490T is wound a little hotter for more midrange punch and top-end sizzle, giving you the cut and grit needed to slice through a mix. Together, they’re a versatile set that can handle everything from sweet, clean chording to snarling, high-gain riffs.

Fast, Comfortable Playability

An SG is built to be played, and this one is no exception. The mahogany neck is carved into Gibson’s popular Rounded profile, which fills the hand nicely without feeling too chunky. Combined with the 12″ radius rosewood fingerboard and 22 medium jumbo frets, it’s a platform built for speed and comfort. Bending notes feels effortless, and those iconic twin cutaways provide unrestricted access all the way to the highest frets.

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Perfect for: Classic Rock • Hard Rock • Blues Rock • Alternative

Tone

  • Bridge pickup delivers classic rock crunch with a pronounced midrange bite and top-end clarity.
  • Neck pickup is warm, smooth, and articulate—ideal for fat, singing leads and jazzy clean tones.
  • The middle position offers a balanced, open tone that's perfect for rhythm playing and jangly rock sounds.
  • Responds beautifully to your picking dynamics; dig in for aggressive snarl or ease back for sweet, nuanced cleans.

Playing Feel

  • Classic SG lightweight feel and excellent balance, making it comfortable for long gigs.
  • The Rounded neck profile is a perfect middle-ground, offering enough substance for chordal work while still being fast for solos.
  • Effortless string bending and a slinky feel thanks to the 24.75" scale length and medium jumbo frets.
  • Total upper-fret access thanks to the iconic double-cutaway design.

Versatility

  • Cleans up nicely but begs for overdrive; excels at everything from edge-of-breakup blues to saturated rock gain.
  • A fantastic pedal platform; the 490T pickup has the power to drive fuzz and distortion pedals with authority.
  • In the studio, it provides the definitive rock guitar sound that sits perfectly in a dense band mix.
  • Cuts through the mix with a focused midrange that ensures you're always heard.

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The 490R and 490T are what Gibson calls ‘Modern Classics.’ They’re inspired by the legendary PAFs but have a bit more punch in the upper-mids, which gives them a more contemporary rock voice. They use Alnico II magnets, so they still have that smooth, singing quality, but with an edge that’s perfect for driving an amp.
This SG is listed in Excellent Condition. That means it’s been well-cared for, showing only very minor signs of being played. It’s structurally and electronically sound and ready to rock right out of the case.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
