Product Description

Vintage-Perfect ’63 Tele Feel With Custom Shop Firepower

Some guitars feel alive the second you pick them up. This Fender Custom Shop 1963 Telecaster Relic is one of those. Light, resonant, and dripping with aged Lake Placid Blue attitude, it hits that sweet spot between collectible and everyday workhorse.

Dealer-Selected Alder Body & Aged Nitro Finish

This one was hand selected at the 2023 Fender Custom Shop Fall Dealer event, so it is not just another catalog build. The 2-piece alder body is lively and open, and the aged Lake Placid Blue nitrocellulose finish lets it breathe instead of choking it under thick poly.

At 7 pounds 7 ounces it hangs perfectly on a strap, light enough for long sets but with enough mass to give you sustain and rich low end bloom. The tasteful relic work feels like a guitar that has seen a thousand stages without looking like it was dragged behind a truck.

60s Oval C Neck That Feels Instantly Familiar

The 60 Style Oval C neck profile is that classic mid-60s Fender carve: full enough to anchor your hand, slim enough that fast lines and extended chords feel effortless. Real talk, if you like a comfortable modern Fender neck, this will feel like home in about thirty seconds.

The round lam rosewood fingerboard with a 9.5 inch radius and 6105 narrow tall frets makes bends feel buttery and precise. You get vintage vibe with the kind of clean, buzz-free fretwork that makes chords ring glassy and in tune up and down the neck.

Hand-Wound Twisted Tele Pickups With Extra Cut

Fender’s hand-wound Twisted Tele pickups take classic Tele sparkle and add just a little more output and mid punch. The bridge pickup delivers that sharp Tele bite that slices through a band mix, but it stays musical instead of getting ice picky.

Flip to the neck and you get a fat, warm tone that still keeps the top-end detail for glassy chords and syrupy leads. The middle position is pure magic for rhythm work, and the simple 3-way blade with volume and tone is as intuitive as it gets.

Custom Shop Build Quality You Can Feel

Everything about this guitar feels dialed: the quartersawn maple neck is stiff and stable, the vintage style hardware locks in tuning, and the setup right out of the case is stage ready. It is incredibly resonant acoustically, so you feel the notes blooming against your chest before you ever plug it in.

This is a brand new Custom Shop piece, not a wall relic or second. You are getting Fender’s top tier craftsmanship front to back, with a vibe that usually only comes from a well-loved vintage original.

Ready For Real-World Playing

Included are the original hardshell case, Certificate of Authenticity, and all the case candy you expect from a Fender Custom Shop build. We give it a full Player-Perfect setup before it leaves our shop, so it shows up ready to hit the stage, the studio, or the writing room.

If you want to know how this specific guitar feels and responds, call us at (888) 794-8482 and talk to a real player who has had it in hand and can walk you through every detail.

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Perfect for: Country & Americana • Blues & Roots Rock • Classic Rock • Indie & Alt Rock • Worship & Modern Pop

Tone

  • Bridge pickup delivers bright Tele snap with extra mid punch from the hand-wound Twisted Tele wind.
  • Neck pickup is warm and rounded but keeps enough top end for glassy chords and leads.
  • Middle position gives a sweet, airy rhythm tone that tucks into any mix.
  • Highly touch responsive, going from clean and glassy to gritty and urgent just by changing your pick attack.
  • Stays articulate with drive pedals and loves to push a good tube amp into singing sustain.

Playing Feel

  • 60 Style Oval C neck feels broken in and comfortable the moment you grab it.
  • 9.5 inch radius and 6105 frets make wide bends and vibrato feel smooth and controlled.
  • Quartersawn neck and medium-light body give a lively, resonant feel against your chest.
  • Balances perfectly on a strap for long rehearsals and three-set nights.
  • Player-Perfect setup keeps the action comfortable without killing your dynamic range.

Versatility

  • Covers classic Tele twang, bluesy grit, and chiming indie rhythms with ease.
  • Handles edge-of-breakup amps and stacked overdrives without getting muddy.
  • Records beautifully with clear, focused mids that sit in a mix.
  • Equally at home in country, worship, roots rock, and modern pop settings.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

This is Fender Custom Shop, so you are talking about a different level of wood selection, fretwork, and overall feel compared to standard production models. The neck feels more dialed in, the resonance is stronger, and the relic work makes it feel broken in instead of brand new and stiff.
The Twisted Tele set takes classic Tele tone and adds a bit more output and midrange push, so you get extra cut without losing clarity. They stay glassy and articulate clean, but when you lean on your amp or step on an overdrive they have a tight, focused growl that really wakes up a mix.
At 7 lbs 7 oz this one lands in the sweet spot for a Tele. It feels light and lively on a strap, but there is still enough mass to give you sustain, punchy lows, and a solid, connected feel under your hands. You can play a three-hour set without thinking about the weight.
The relic treatment on this guitar is tasteful and player-focused. You get the worn-in feel, finish checking, and small marks that make it feel like an old friend, but nothing so over-the-top that it looks fake or gimmicky. It feels like a well-loved vintage Tele that has actually been played.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
Call us at (888) 794-8482. You’ll talk to a real musician who can answer anything you need to know.
