Product Description

Compact Body, Huge Hawaiian Koa Voice

The Taylor GS Mini-e Koa is what happens when a travel-sized acoustic stops acting like a toy and starts sounding like a real guitar. You get that lush, shimmering koa tone, real volume, and a feel that makes you want to keep writing, jamming, and dragging it everywhere you go.

Based on a scaled-down Grand Symphony body, this little cannon punches way above its weight. It is only 36 inches long and about 3.8 pounds, but it still moves air, stays in tune, and plays cleanly up the neck in a way most short-scale guitars just do not.

Solid Hawaiian Koa Top, Rich And Bold

The solid Hawaiian koa top is the star of the show. You get a focused, punchy midrange with a sweet top end that goes from glassy and articulate to warm and smoky as the wood opens up over time.

Layered koa back and sides keep it stable on the road while still giving you that unmistakable koa look. The thin varnish finish lets the top breathe and resonate instead of choking it under a thick gloss, so the guitar feels alive in your hands.

Short Scale, Shockingly Good Intonation

Short-scale acoustics usually come with a tradeoff: they feel fun, but they do not always play in tune. Taylor solved that problem. The GS Mini platform is famous for spot-on intonation and accurate pitch all the way up the neck.

At 23.5 inches, the scale length gives you a slinkier feel and easier stretches, especially for smaller hands or electric players jumping over to acoustic. Chords ring in tune, capos behave, and it just feels right under the fingers.

Plug In, Tune Up, Play Anywhere

With Taylor’s ES-B system, this GS Mini-e Koa is ready for the stage, the studio, and the campfire. The pickup delivers a clear, natural amplified sound that still feels like your guitar, not a quacky piezo from the early 2000s.

The built-in digital tuner with an easy-to-read LED display is the kind of simple upgrade you quickly cannot live without. Hit the button, mute your signal, tune silently, and you are back in the song in seconds.

Road Warrior Size, Couch-Friendly Comfort

The GS Mini body is that sweet spot where comfort and tone meet. It is small enough to throw in the car, fit in tight stages, or live next to the couch, but still big enough that you do not feel like you are compromising.

At around 3.8 pounds, it is genuinely easy on the shoulder and perfect for long writing sessions, rehearsals, or fly dates. Pair that with the included structured Taylor gig bag, and you have a grab-and-go rig that is always ready.

Taylor Build Quality, Moore Guitars Setup

Taylor’s build quality is as consistent as it gets: clean fretwork, comfortable Neo-Tropical mahogany neck, and a silky West African Crelicam ebony fingerboard that feels fast and smooth. No weird buzzes, no rough fret ends, no surprises.

On top of that, our techs give this specific GS Mini-e Koa a full Player-Perfect setup before it leaves the shop. It is inspected three times, dialed in for optimal playability, and ready to go the second you crack the case.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Real talk: you are not giving up nearly as much as you would think. A full-size Taylor will have a bit more low-end thump and overall air, but this GS Mini-e Koa still delivers a surprisingly big, rich voice with plenty of volume for solo playing or small gigs. The mids are nice and focused, the highs stay sweet, and the short scale makes it easier and more fun to play than a lot of full-size guitars. Many players end up grabbing their GS Mini more often than their “main” acoustic.
That is the magic of the GS Mini design. Most short-scale acoustics struggle to play in tune up the neck, but Taylor really nailed the geometry on these. The 23.5″ scale still tunes up to standard pitch without feeling floppy, and chords stay in tune whether you are down low, capoed, or playing leads higher up. It feels slinky and comfortable without the usual short-scale headaches.
Honestly, it can be both. It is small and tough enough to be the perfect travel and couch guitar, but the tone and playability are good enough that a lot of players gig these regularly. If you play a lot of songwriter rounds, worship sets, or acoustic duo gigs, this GS Mini-e Koa will hold its own just fine. The ES-B pickup gives you an easy plug-and-play live rig, and the koa top only gets better the more you play it.
The ES-B is designed to keep things simple and musical. Plugged straight into a PA or acoustic amp, it gives you a clear, natural sound that does not feel harsh or plasticky. It takes pedals and EQ really well if you want to shape it further. The built-in tuner is a huge bonus on stage or around the campfire, letting you mute and tune quickly without extra gear.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
