Product Description

Gold Label Taylor Tone With A Dark, Sleek Attitude

The Taylor Gold Label 717e Blacktop is what happens when Taylor takes their Grand Pacific round shoulder dreadnought concept and gives it a boutique, small batch treatment. It feels like a broken in workhorse, but looks like a custom shop piece that is ready for the stage.

This is a true acoustic electric player’s guitar. Unplugged it has that wide open, big shouldered presence. Plugged in, the factory Taylor electronics keep things natural, clear, and controllable so you are not fighting quacky piezo tone all night.

Grand Pacific Body, Big Voice

The 717e is built on Taylor’s Grand Pacific platform, their round shoulder dreadnought that nods to classic slope shoulder guitars while keeping the clarity and balance Taylor is known for. It gives you a wide, blooming low end and a smooth midrange that loves strumming, flatpicking, and fingerstyle in equal measure.

If you have lived on smaller bodies and are ready for something that moves more air without turning to mud, this hits that sweet spot. It feels familiar like an old school dread, but sits closer to the body and behaves a little more politely in a mix.

Blacktop Look, Gold Label Feel

The Blacktop treatment takes the Grand Pacific silhouette and gives it a shadowy, stage ready vibe. Under lights it looks classy and modern, not flashy for the sake of it. Real talk, it is the kind of guitar that looks as good in a listening room as it does on a big stage.

Being part of the Gold Label run means you are not grabbing a cookie cutter production piece. You are stepping into a carefully curated version of the 717e concept, with the kind of attention to detail that Taylor reserves for their special projects.

Plug In And Own The Room

As the “e” in 717e hints, this is built to go straight to the PA. The onboard Taylor pickup and preamp system keeps your acoustic voice intact while giving you the control you need under stage volume. No harsh top end, no runaway feedback headaches, just a clear, musical signal that takes EQ and effects gracefully.

Whether you are leading worship, playing songwriter rounds, or dropping this into a full band mix, it slots in easily. Push it with drives and ambient verbs, or keep it bone dry and honest. It stays musical either way.

Dialed In By Players At Moore Guitars

Before this 717e Blacktop leaves our Evansville shop, it gets our full Player-Perfect setup. We go through the neck relief, saddle height, nut slots, and intonation so it feels broken in from the first chord, not like a stiff, off the rack acoustic.

Tell us your string gauge and how you like your action and we will tailor it so it feels like home as soon as you crack the case. Then we pack it up safe, ship it fast, and keep you in the loop with tracking the whole way.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The Gold Label 717e Blacktop is part of a small batch run that leans into vibe and detail. You still get Taylor consistency, but with a more curated, boutique feel. The Grand Pacific body gives it a different voice than the classic Taylor shapes, and the Blacktop aesthetic makes it look right at home on a serious stage rather than like another cookie cutter acoustic.
It does both really well. The Grand Pacific round shoulder body has enough headroom and low end for big strummed parts, but it is balanced enough that fingerstyle lines do not get buried. If your set list moves from gentle verses to big choruses, this guitar can cover the whole arc without you needing to swap instruments.
The Grand Pacific keeps the big shoulder presence of a dreadnought but with a more rounded, relaxed outline. It tends to tuck in closer to your body and feel a little less boxy. A lot of players who find classic square shoulder dreads a bit bulky or boomy really like how the Grand Pacific sits and responds.
The onboard Taylor electronics are built for real world stages. You get a clear, controllable signal that sounds like your guitar, not a plastic piezo. It sits nicely in a full band mix, works great in church environments, and takes EQ well if your sound tech needs to carve space. Feedback resistance is solid as long as the monitors are placed sensibly.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
