Product Description

Start Right And Stay Inspired With The Taylor Academy 12e

The Taylor Academy 12e is what happens when a company refuses to build a “good enough” beginner guitar. It is compact, easy playing, and way more alive than most guitars anywhere near this price. Whether you are just getting started or already gigging, this thing is built to keep you playing, not fighting the instrument.

Real talk, a cheap, stiff acoustic can kill your motivation fast. The Academy 12e flips that script with a torrefied solid spruce top, layered walnut back and sides, and Taylor’s legendary neck feel. It is comfortable, responsive, and rewarding from day one.

Torrefied Spruce Top With Real Acoustic Punch

The torrefied solid spruce top is the heart of this guitar. That thermal treatment makes the top respond like it has already been played in for years, with extra warmth, quick response, and a bit more bloom on every note.

You get a bold, focused voice with plenty of projection for a smaller body. Strum it and the chords stay clear instead of turning to mud, pick lightly and it still speaks with clarity and glassy top end.

Comfort Focused Grand Concert Design

The Grand Concert body is smaller and more intimate than a big dread, which is perfect for new players, kids, or anyone who does not want to wrestle a huge guitar. It tucks in close to your body and keeps your picking hand in a relaxed, natural position.

The built in armrest is a game changer at this level. Instead of a hard edge digging into your forearm, you get a smooth, contoured surface that reduces fatigue and even helps the guitar resonate more freely. Long practice sessions feel less like work and more like time you actually look forward to.

The Taylor Neck That Keeps You Playing

Taylor necks have a reputation for a reason. The slender profile on the Academy 12e feels effortless under your hand, with clean fretwork that makes chords, barres, and melody lines come together faster.

The shorter 24-7/8 inch scale length keeps string tension a bit softer, so bends are easier and you do not have to fight the guitar to get clean notes. For beginners, it means less pain and faster progress. For experienced players, it is just a ridiculously comfortable neck you will not want to put down.

Stage Ready ES-B Electronics

When you are ready to plug in, the ES-B system makes it easy. It is voiced to sound natural and clear, so what you hear acoustically is what you get through the PA or your acoustic amp.

It is perfect for worship teams, coffeehouse gigs, open mics, and home recording. No fuss, no giant learning curve, just a solid plug in and play acoustic tone that takes pedals well and sits in a mix without a fight.

Built For Real Life Players

Ebony fingerboard, eucalyptus bridge, Nubone nut, Micarta saddle, and D’Addario XS coated phosphor bronze strings all add up to a guitar that stays stable and sounds consistent day after day. The layered walnut back and sides are tough enough for travel while still giving you musical, usable tone.

You also get a padded Taylor gig bag, so this Academy 12e is ready for lessons, rehearsals, and gigs right out of the gate. Photos on our site are of the actual guitar, serial number 2205015064, and there is only one just like this in our shop.

Dialed In By Moore Guitars

Every Taylor we sell gets a full Player Perfect setup in our Evansville, Indiana shop. We check it three times before it goes in a box, and we will happily dial in your preferred string gauge and action so it shows up feeling like home.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Not at all. The Academy Series was designed to help new players succeed, but it is built with the same mindset as Taylor’s higher end guitars. The comfortable neck, torrefied spruce top, and solid electronics make it a killer choice for beginners, parents buying for their kids, and working players who want a reliable, great sounding acoustic that will not hold them back.
Torrefaction is a heat treatment that effectively “ages” the spruce, giving you a more open, seasoned sound right out of the box. You get extra warmth, quicker response, and a bit more complexity in the tone compared to a typical entry level solid spruce top. It feels and sounds closer to a broken in guitar instead of something brand new and stiff.
The Grand Concert body is smaller and easier to wrap your arm around than a full size dreadnought, especially if you are shorter, younger, or just prefer a compact feel. The built in armrest takes away that hard edge against your forearm, so you can play longer with less fatigue. If big acoustics have ever felt bulky or awkward, this will be a pleasant surprise.
Yes. This guitar includes a padded Taylor gig bag that is perfect for lessons, rehearsals, and light gigging. It offers good protection without a lot of extra weight, so the whole rig stays grab and go friendly.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
