Product Description

Shimmering 12 String Chime Without The Fight

For most of us, a 12 string is that extra voice we reach for when a song needs more air, more chime and more drama. This Taylor 454ce gives you that lush, orchestral shimmer with the kind of easy playing feel that makes you actually want to use it, not fear it.

Rosewood And Sitka: Classic, Lush And Balanced

Indian rosewood back and sides bring the warm low end and blooming overtones, while the Sitka spruce top adds snap, projection and clarity. The result is a big, piano like spread that never gets muddy, even when you are strumming full chords across all 12 strings.

Taylor’s V Class bracing is doing serious work here. It stiffens the top in the right places for more volume and sustain, and keeps the fundamental pitch locked in so those octave pairs ring in tune all the way up the neck.

Grand Auditorium Body That Hits The Sweet Spot

The Grand Auditorium shape is the ideal home for a 12 string like this. It has enough air volume for that wide, stereo style spread, but it is far more comfortable and controlled than a big jumbo body.

The Venetian cutaway keeps the upper register wide open for chord extensions and melodic lines, while the gloss finish over the natural top and rosewood back gives it a classy, stage ready look. White binding, a green abalone rosette and faux tortoise guard keep it elegant without getting flashy.

Taylor Neck Comfort On A 12 String

Real talk, if a 12 string neck does not feel right, you will never reach for it. The neo tropical mahogany neck with Taylor’s standard carve feels instantly familiar if you have played any modern Taylor before.

The bolt on design and satin finish keep it fast and smooth, the 1 7/8 inch nut gives you room for the pairs without feeling like a baseball bat, and the West African Crelicam ebony fingerboard with Finial inlays keeps things clean and classy. Intonation and tuning stability are rock solid, which is huge when you are wrangling twice the number of strings.

Expression System 2: Plug In And Keep It Real

When you decide to take this 454ce on stage, the Expression System 2 is ready. The pickup sits behind the saddle and tracks the top movement, so you get more of the actual acoustic voice instead of that harsh piezo quack.

Through a PA, acoustic amp or modeler, the ES2 stays natural, dynamic and responsive to your touch. Strum hard and it roars, back off and it delivers glassy, chiming textures that sit beautifully in a mix.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The 454ce hits that sweet spot of lush shimmer and real-world playability. The Indian rosewood and Sitka spruce combo gives you big, blooming overtones, while the V-Class bracing keeps chords clear and in tune all the way up the neck. Add Taylor’s comfortable standard neck carve and light overall weight, and you get a 12 string you will actually reach for on gigs and sessions instead of leaving it in the case.
Compared to a lot of older 12 strings, this Taylor is a breeze. The neck profile is the familiar Taylor feel that so many players love, the 1 7/8″ nut gives you room without feeling huge, and our setup keeps the action comfortable without killing the tone. You still get that satisfying resistance of a 12 string, but you are not wrestling it just to make basic chords ring clean.
The ES2 is built for exactly that. Instead of the harsh, quacky piezo sound a lot of 12 strings have, it tracks the movement of the top for a more natural acoustic voice. Into a PA, acoustic amp or straight into an interface, it stays clear, dynamic and very controllable with EQ. It layers beautifully in worship mixes and studio tracks without taking over the whole frequency spectrum.
Yes. We shoot each Taylor individually, so the guitar you see on the site is the exact 454ce 12 string you will pull out of the case. No stock photos, no surprises—what you see is what you get, right down to the grain on the top and the figure in the rosewood.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
Call us at (888) 794-8482. You’ll talk to a real musician who can answer anything you need to know.
