Product Description

Neo vintage Taylor warmth in a player friendly Grand Pacific

The Taylor 117e is what happens when you take that seasoned, round shouldered dreadnought vibe and give it Taylor level playability. Grand Pacific body, torrefied spruce top, C-Class bracing and ES2 electronics all working together to give you a warm, broken in voice that still has plenty of clarity and cut.

It is the first 100 Series Taylor to rock the Grand Pacific shape, which means a more relaxed shoulder, a rounder low end and a familiar, almost old record kind of bloom. Real talk, if you want a guitar that feels inspiring on the couch and dependable on stage without wrecking your budget, this one hits that sweet spot.

Grand Pacific body with grown up low end

The Grand Pacific round shoulder dreadnought gives you that bigger, more forgiving acoustic punch. It smooths out the top end a bit, adds a wider, warmer bass and makes chords feel like they are wrapped in a little extra air.

Whether you are backing your voice or carrying the whole song with just guitar, the 117e has the projection and presence to do it. The layered sapele back and sides keep it stable and road ready while still delivering a focused midrange that keeps your strumming from getting muddy.

Torrefied spruce top and C-Class bracing for opened up tone

The solid torrefied spruce top is the secret sauce. Taylor roasts the spruce so it behaves more like a seasoned, well played top, with that sweet, aged in response you usually have to wait years to hear.

C-Class bracing with a relief rout pushes more volume, sustain and bass presence out of that top. The result is a guitar that feels alive under your right hand, with a warm fundamental, singing overtones and enough headroom to handle everything from gentle fingerstyle to full strum attack.

Slender neck that welcomes any player

The maple neck has that familiar slender, easy playing Taylor feel that makes chord changes and extended practice sessions way less of a fight. It is forgiving for newer players and still fast and precise enough for more advanced hands.

At about 4.8 pounds, this guitar feels light and nicely balanced, so your shoulder will thank you during long sets or long songwriting nights. It is the kind of neck and weight that lets you focus on the music, not the instrument fighting back.

Stage ready ES2 electronics and gig bag included

Taylor’s Expression System 2 keeps your plugged in tone sounding like the guitar in your lap, not a piezo quack machine. It tracks dynamics beautifully, so you can dig in for grit, lay back for glassy cleans and it all translates through the PA or your acoustic amp.

You also get a Taylor gig bag, so it is ready to hit rehearsals, open mics, worship services or bar gigs right out of the box. Add the value packed price and it is an easy grab for your first serious acoustic or a reliable working rig.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The 117e is the first 100 Series Taylor to wear the Grand Pacific round shoulder dreadnought body, so it brings a different flavor than the more traditional shapes. You get a warmer, more seasoned low end, a slightly rounder top and a vibe that feels closer to a vintage style dread while still keeping that Taylor clarity and balance. If you want a 100 Series that leans a little more old school in character, this is the one.
Torrefaction is Taylor’s roasting process for the spruce top, and it is all about feel and sound. It takes some of the moisture and stiffness out of the wood so the top behaves more like a well played, older guitar. You hear that as a sweeter, more broken in response, quicker attack, and a nice bloom on sustained notes without having to wait years for the guitar to open up.
Absolutely. The slender neck and lighter weight make it very friendly for newer players, and the Grand Pacific body is forgiving and comfortable. At the same time, the torrefied top, C-Class bracing and ES2 electronics give it enough tone and reliability to keep up as you grow into gigging and recording. It is a guitar you will not outgrow quickly.
The 117e was built with real world playing in mind. The ES2 pickup system gives you a natural, dynamic sound through a PA, and the warm yet clear voice sits nicely under vocals. Add the comfortable weight, included gig bag and our pro setup, and you have a very solid choice for church, coffee shops, small stages or open mics.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
