Swiss Spruce Power With Exotic Bubinga Voice
There are a lot of great dreadnoughts out there, but very few that sound like this. This Martin Custom Shop Custom D takes the classic HD-28 recipe and hot-rods it with High Altitude Swiss spruce and premium quilted bubinga for a voice that is familiar yet completely its own.
High Altitude Swiss Spruce Top For Punch And Clarity
Certified European spruce from high in the Swiss Alps gives you that fast, immediate response you expect from a great Martin, with extra headroom when you lean in. It has the quick attack and piano-like fundamental that flatpickers love, yet stays articulate and glassy for fingerstyle work.
Quilted Bubinga Back And Sides: Between Rosewood And Maple
Bubinga lives in that sweet zone between rosewood and maple. The low end is strong and tight, more focused than a typical rosewood dreadnought, so your bass notes stay defined instead of turning to mush.
The mids feel slightly scooped but still present, which opens up space for vocals, while the high end has just the right sparkle to cut without getting harsh. As the wood ages, you can expect rich, controlled overtones and sustain that blooms and hangs in the air.
Dreadnought “Battleship” Body With Surprising Control
This is classic Martin dreadnought territory – big air movement, big projection, and that reassuring feel against your chest when you dig in. The D14 fret bracing keeps the top lively and responsive so you get plenty of volume without losing nuance.
Real talk, if you want an acoustic that can anchor a band mix, fill a room solo, and still respond to a light touch, this Custom D hits that mark with ease.
Neck That Feels Like Home
The Modified Low Oval profile with High Performance taper is one of Martin’s most player-friendly necks. It fills the hand just enough for chord work but stays sleek up high so you can move around without fighting it.
The satin finish keeps it fast and non-sticky, while the 16 inch ebony fingerboard gives you smooth bends and clean, low action potential. At 1 3/4 inches at the nut with medium strings, it is ready for modern fingerstyle, flatpicking, or big first-position chords all night.
Premium Details, Front To Back
European flamed maple binding and heelcap, HD zig zag purfling, Style 28 rosette, and a quilted bubinga headplate tie the whole look together. It is elegant without being flashy, the kind of guitar that looks better the closer you get.
Under the hood, you get spruce bracing through the top, back, and sides, a dovetail neck joint, bone nut and drop-in saddle, Grover StaTite gold tuners, and a molded hardshell case with Custom Shop credentials book. Everything is built for decades of reliable use on stage, in the studio, or in the writing room.
Ready For Your Own Pickup Path
There is no factory pickup in this one, which means the acoustic tone is as pure as it gets. Mic it up in the studio, or choose your favorite system later and tailor the plugged-in sound to your exact needs.
