Product Description

The Workhorse, Unplugged and Unvarnished

There’s a reason the Martin D-28 is the quintessential acoustic guitar: it’s a canon of tone that has defined the sound of folk, bluegrass, and rock for generations. This pre-owned 2023 model brings that legendary voice to the table with a smooth, satin finish. This isn’t just an aesthetic choice; the thinner finish lets the entire body breathe, creating a resonant, woody character that feels alive against your chest. It’s the D-28’s soul, laid bare.

Classic Tonewoods, Maximum Resonance

The foundation of the D-28’s power comes from its pairing of a solid Spruce top with East Indian Rosewood back and sides. You get the best of both worlds, the crisp articulation and harmonic richness from the spruce, backed by the deep, booming low-end and glassy highs of the rosewood. The forward-shifted, non-scalloped X-bracing provides a rock-solid top with incredible projection, perfect for holding down the rhythm in a jam or cutting through a mix on stage.

Effortless Playability

Martin knows how to make a guitar that feels like an old friend from the first chord. The Modified Low Oval neck profile with the High-Performance Taper is a modern player’s dream; it’s substantial enough to grab onto for big cowboy chords but sleek enough for intricate flatpicking runs up the ebony fingerboard. The 1 3/4″ nut width gives you just enough space for clean chording without feeling cumbersome. This is a guitar that simply gets out of the way and lets you play.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Great question. A satin finish is thinner than a traditional gloss finish, which allows the wood to vibrate more freely. Players often find satin-finished guitars like this one to be a bit more ‘open’ and ‘woody’ sounding right out of the box, with a quicker response and a very organic feel.
Forward-shifting the main ‘X’ brace moves it closer to the soundhole. This allows the bridge area of the top to have a larger vibrating surface, which typically results in a more powerful bass response and increased volume. It’s a key ingredient to that classic Martin dreadnought boom.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship within 1–4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
