Product Description

The One That Started It All

There are very few acoustic guitars that can claim the legendary status of the Martin D-28. It’s the sound of countless records, the benchmark for dreadnought tone, and the workhorse for artists from Hank Williams to Joni Mitchell. This pre-owned D-28, built in 2025 and in excellent condition, carries that same iconic DNA, offering a playing experience that’s both timeless and inspiring.

The magic starts with the classic wood combination. A solid Spruce top with a handsome aging toner provides the engine for its voice, delivering power, clarity, and a dynamic response that rewards every nuance of your playing. Paired with East Indian Rosewood for the back and sides, you get that signature D-28 scoop, rich in complex overtones, with a powerful low-end and shimmering, articulate highs. It’s a sound that records beautifully and fills a room with ease.

Modern Playability, Timeless Tone

This isn’t just a cannon of a guitar; it’s built to be played. The forward-shifted, scalloped X-bracing makes the top sing with incredible freedom, enhancing bass response and overall volume. The neck is a modern player’s dream, featuring a Modified Low Oval profile with a High-Performance Taper. It feels comfortable and fast, whether you’re chording down low or picking out melodies up the neck. The whole instrument has been Plek’d, ensuring impeccable fretwork and spot-on intonation right out of the included hardshell case.

Authentic Martin Craftsmanship

From the antique white binding and Style 28 rosette to the script old-style overlay on the headstock, every detail is pure Martin. The gloss finish on the body lets the beautiful grain of the rosewood and spruce shine, while the satin neck finish provides a smooth, uninhibited feel. Bone nut, saddle, and bridge pins ensure maximum vibrational transfer, translating string energy into pure, resonant tone. This is more than just a guitar; it’s a piece of music history, ready for its next chapter.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Great question. Forward-shifting the main X-brace (moving it closer to the soundhole) allows the top to vibrate more freely, which significantly boosts the bass response and overall volume. Scalloping the braces, which means shaving away wood in key areas, makes them lighter and even more flexible, adding to the guitar’s resonance and responsiveness. It’s a big part of that classic, open D-28 sound.
It’s designed for comfort and speed. It’s a slim profile, but not so thin that it feels foreign to players used to more traditional necks. The ‘High-Performance Taper’ means it stays slim as you move up the neck, making it just as easy to play lead lines as it is to play cowboy chords. It’s a really versatile shape that most players find immediately comfortable.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
