Iconic Hummingbird Voice With Stage Ready Confidence

The Gibson Hummingbird Original is one of those acoustics you hear once and never forget. Big square shoulder chime, warm mahogany depth, and that unmistakable Hummingbird punch that just blooms under your fingers.

This Antique Natural beauty gives you the classic recipe that made the Hummingbird a legend, built with modern consistency so it will take real world gigs and sessions in stride. Sitka spruce over mahogany, gloss nitro finish, and traditional hand scalloped X bracing deliver that wide, open voice that records like a dream and fills a room without breaking a sweat.

Spruce And Mahogany For That Classic Gibson Shimmer

The Sitka spruce top is the engine of this guitar. It is responsive and lively, so light fingerstyle has glassy detail and hard strumming never collapses or gets muddy.

Mahogany back and sides bring the warmth and focus. You get a woody low end, clear mids, and a sweet top that sits right where a vocal needs it to. Traditional hand scalloped X bracing lets the whole box move, so chords bloom and single notes have that nice piano like fundamental.

The gloss nitrocellulose lacquer is thin and musical. It lets the body breathe and age gracefully instead of sealing it up in plastic. Multi ply binding with that double antiqued look frames everything in true vintage Gibson style.

Neck That Feels Like Home

The rounded mahogany neck hits that sweet spot between substantial and comfortable. It fills the hand just enough to keep your wrist relaxed on long gigs, but never feels like a baseball bat.

The 12 inch rosewood fingerboard radius keeps cowboy chords easy down low and makes lead work up top smooth and controlled. Twenty standard frets and mother of pearl parallelogram inlays give you the classic Hummingbird look while staying clean and precise all the way up the neck.

A compound dovetail neck to body joint ties it all together, so notes ring with confidence and tuning stays solid when you dig in.

LR Baggs VTC: Plug In And Go

When it is time to hit the stage, the LR Baggs VTC under saddle system keeps everything sounding like your guitar, not a plastic quack machine. It tracks your dynamics closely, so soft touches stay intimate and big choruses still feel natural and open.

Simple volume and tone controls let you shape your sound on the fly without diving into menus or fighting with the soundboard. Run it straight into a PA, an acoustic amp, or your interface, and you get a warm, present voice that sits in the mix with very little EQ.

Boutique Details On A Legendary Workhorse

This Hummingbird Original is dressed up with gold Gotoh Keystone tuners that hold tune rock solid and look right at home against the Antique Natural finish. Bone nut and saddle plus Tus bridge pins keep the tone clear and the intonation true all the way up the neck.

The .060 Hummingbird pickguard and Hummingbird truss rod cover give you the iconic look that has been on countless records. Under the hood, the traditional belly up bridge anchors the top for great transfer and sustain.

Out of the case, you are looking at a featherweight 5.5 lb guitar that you can wear for three sets without thinking about it. It ships in a hardshell case and includes the Gibson accessory kit, so you are dialed from day one.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

You get the vintage recipe and vibe without hunting the used market or worrying about 50 year old repairs. Sitka over mahogany, traditional hand scalloped X bracing, nitro finish, and that unmistakable Hummingbird voice are all here. The big difference is modern consistency and stability, plus the LR Baggs VTC onboard so you are ready for any stage or session straight away.
The square shoulder design gives the Hummingbird its broad, open sound. You get a strong low end that stays tight, clear mids that support a vocal, and a top end that has shimmer without getting harsh. It is a great shape if you want one acoustic that can handle both big strumming and more controlled fingerstyle without feeling like a cannon you always have to tame.
Very. The LR Baggs VTC is designed to be plug in simple and sound good without a ton of tweaking. Volume and tone controls give you enough shaping to adapt to different rooms and PAs, and it stays warm and natural at stage volume. If you like to keep your rig lean, this system lets you go straight to the board or an acoustic amp with confidence.
Yes. The photos are of this specific Hummingbird Original, serial number 21065006. It weighs in at 5.5 lbs and is the only one we have in stock. We inspect it three times, give it a full pro setup, and then it goes straight into the case and out to you. No surprises when you open the box.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
