Product Description

A Hummingbird in Midnight’s Clothing

This isn’t your everyday Hummingbird. This is the Gibson Custom Shop taking an absolute legend and giving it the full tuxedo treatment. The Hummingbird Custom in Ebony is a visually stunning, sonically captivating instrument that commands attention before you even play a note. All the warm, woody, and beloved tone of the classic square-shouldered dreadnought is here, but it’s wrapped in a package of pure class with a vibe that borrows from another Gibson legend, the Les Paul Custom.

The Heart of the Tone

Beneath that deep, gloss ebony finish lies the classic tonewood pairing that made the Hummingbird a go-to for generations of songwriters and performers. A solid Sitka Spruce top provides the articulation, clarity, and dynamic headroom, while solid Mahogany back and sides deliver that signature warm, focused midrange and natural compression. It’s a sound that just blooms, perfect for vocal accompaniment, where it supports without overpowering. The hand-scalloped X-bracing ensures every note is rich and resonant.

Effortless Playability & Custom Looks

The real magic for the player is the short 24.75″ scale length, just like a Les Paul. This little detail lowers the string tension, making bends feel slinkier and full-barre chords easier on the hand for those long sessions. The comfortable Rounded neck profile and the slick, bound Ebony fingerboard feel immediately familiar and fast. And you can’t miss the appointments: multi-ply binding, Mother-of-Pearl Custom Block inlays, a Les Paul-style headstock with a split-diamond inlay, and gold Grover Rotomatic tuners.

Stage-Ready Electronics

When it’s time to plug in, the onboard L.R. Baggs Session VTC system captures the guitar’s true acoustic voice with stunning accuracy. This isn’t just a pickup; it’s a studio-quality preamp and pickup designed to deliver a rich, natural sound to the FOH or your amp. The controls are discreetly mounted in the soundhole, preserving the guitar’s clean aesthetic while giving you on-the-fly control over your volume and tone.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Think of this as a Hummingbird in a tuxedo. It has the same core construction and tone, but gets the Les Paul Custom treatment: a striking Ebony finish, multi-ply binding, Mother-of-Pearl block inlays, a split-diamond headstock inlay, and gold hardware for a high-end, stage-ready look.
It feels incredible—and familiar if you’ve played a Gibson electric. The slightly lower string tension makes the strings feel slinkier and easier to bend. It’s a subtle change that makes a huge difference in comfort, especially if you’re playing for hours at a time.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship within 1–4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
