Product Description

Return of the Rebel

Strap in and hold on. The Gibson 70s Explorer is back, and it’s every bit the fire-breathing rock machine that defined an era of music. This isn’t just a reissue; it’s a full-throttle resurrection of the guitar that powered countless iconic riffs. With its radical, futuristic body shape finished in a stunning Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer, this Explorer in Classic White doesn’t just make a statement, it screams it from the rooftops.

Sonic Arsenal: 70s Tribute Power

The heart of this beast is a pair of uncovered 70s Tribute humbuckers. These pickups are voiced to capture that golden era of hard rock, delivering a punchy, articulate attack with plenty of grit and midrange growl. They’re hand-wired with Orange Drop capacitors, a detail any tone-chaser will appreciate, ensuring your signal path is pure and your tone has that authentic vintage character. From searing leads that cut through any mix to chunky power chords that shake the foundation, these pickups have the power and the glory.

Classic Feel, Modern Playability

Gibson nailed the feel on this one. The solid Mahogany body provides the warmth and resonance Explorers are famous for, while the Mahogany neck carved into a fast SlimTaper profile feels instantly comfortable and ready for hours of playing. The bound Rosewood fingerboard with a 12-inch radius is a classic combination, offering a smooth, buttery playing surface for both complex chording and wide, expressive bends. It’s a guitar that feels both substantial and effortlessly playable.

Stage-Ready Hardware

Every piece of hardware is chosen for performance and reliability. An Aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece provide rock-solid tuning stability and precise intonation, letting you wail away without a second thought. Up top, Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners keep everything locked down tight. It’s a complete package, ready for the stage, the studio, or your personal music sanctuary. A hardshell case is included, because a guitar this iconic deserves protection.

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Perfect for: Hard Rock • Classic Rock • Blues Rock • Heavy Metal

Tone

  • Bridge pickup delivers a biting, upper-midrange focused attack with plenty of grit and harmonic complexity.
  • Neck pickup offers a warmer, fatter voice that’s articulate and smooth, perfect for soulful leads and thick rhythms.
  • The middle position is balanced and punchy, giving you a great clean-ish rhythm tone with excellent string definition.
  • Responds beautifully to your picking dynamics; dig in for aggressive breakup or ease back for glassy cleans.

Playing Feel

  • The 7lbs 7oz/7.4lbs weight is well-balanced, making it comfortable on a strap for long gigs without neck dive.
  • The SlimTaper neck profile is fast and accommodating, perfect for both intricate lead work and solid rhythm playing.
  • Feels alive in your hands; the resonance of the mahogany body transfers through the set-neck for incredible sustain.
  • A true player's guitar, built for performance and ready to handle aggressive playing styles with ease.

Versatility

  • Excels with overdrive and distortion, but cleans up nicely by rolling back the volume knobs.
  • A fantastic pedal platform; it loves fuzz, wah, and delay, retaining its core tonal character.
  • In the studio, it provides a powerful, mix-ready tone that requires minimal EQ to sit perfectly.
  • Cuts through a dense band mix with authority, ensuring your riffs are always heard.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The 70s Tribute humbuckers are voiced specifically to capture the raw, powerful sound of 1970s rock. They have a more aggressive midrange and a tighter low end compared to something like a ’57 Classic, giving them a distinct bite and clarity that’s perfect for driving an amp hard.
It’s definitely a unique feel, but many players find it very comfortable. The lower bout cutaway allows it to rest securely on your leg, giving you great access to the entire fretboard. While it’s famous as a standing-up guitar, it’s surprisingly ergonomic when seated.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship same day in most cases and arrive within 1-4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
Call us at (888) 794-8482. You’ll talk to a real musician who can answer anything you need to know.
