Product Description

The Rule-Breaker is Back

Forget what you think you know about bass. The Fender Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI is a different beast entirely—a creative machine that lives in the space between a thumping bass and a baritone guitar. Tuned E-to-E but a full octave down, this instrument delivers a sound that’s been the secret sauce on countless records, from The Beatles to The Cure. It’s not just a bass. It’s not just a guitar. It’s your new favorite texture machine.

Vintage Vibe, Modern Playability

Squier absolutely nailed the old-school aesthetic with this one. The tinted gloss maple neck, pearloid block inlays, and classic Black finish scream vintage cool. But the real magic is how it plays. The slim “C” shape neck and 9.5″ radius Indian Laurel fingerboard are pure comfort, making it easy to fly across the 30″ scale length. Whether you’re laying down a bassline, playing tic-tac melodies, or chording, this neck just feels right.

A Universe of Tone

The heart of the Bass VI is its trio of Fender-Designed Alnico single-coil pickups. Paired with a unique switching system—an on/off switch for each pickup plus a bass-cut “strangle” switch—the sonic possibilities are immense. Go from warm, round, and wooly to bright, clanky, and aggressive with a few flicks. The Alnico magnets provide a beautiful, musical voice with plenty of dynamic response. And yes, that floating vibrato bridge isn’t just for looks. It’s your ticket to subtle shimmers and deep, expressive dives, all while maintaining solid tuning stability.

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Perfect for: Surf Rock • Alternative • Indie • Film Scoring • New Wave

Tone

  • Bridge pickup delivers a bright, percussive twang with plenty of cut.
  • Neck pickup is warm, round, and woody—perfect for traditional basslines.
  • Combining pickups unlocks iconic out-of-phase clank and jangle.
  • The 'Strangle' switch thins out the low-end for a more baritone, guitar-like bite.

Playing Feel

  • Well-balanced Poplar body feels substantial without being overly heavy.
  • The slim "C" neck profile is comfortable for both bassists and guitarists.
  • The 30" short scale makes for a slinky, low-tension feel that's incredibly fun to play.
  • Responds beautifully to your attack—dig in for aggressive grit or play soft for a gentle bloom.

Versatility

  • Shines with a clean amp for surfy jangle, but takes fuzz and overdrive like a champ.
  • A fantastic studio tool for layering unique textures that guitar and bass can't replicate.
  • Loves pedals, especially modulation, delay, and heavy fuzz.
  • Cuts through a mix with a distinct voice that occupies its own sonic space.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

It’s really its own thing! It’s tuned E-to-E like a standard guitar, but a full octave lower. This gives it the depth of a bass but allows you to play chords and melodies like a guitar. It’s the ultimate ‘in-between’ instrument.
It’s super versatile. You get a separate on/off slide switch for each of the three pickups, so you can use any pickup by itself or combine them in any way you want—neck and bridge, all three on at once, you name it. The fourth switch is a ‘strangle’ switch that cuts low frequencies for a brighter, thinner tone.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
Call us at (888) 794-8482. You’ll talk to a real musician who can answer anything you need to know.
