Product Description

Vintage Strat Soul With Postmodern Firepower

The Postmodern Stratocaster is what happens when Fender Custom Shop listens to vintage purists and modern players at the same time. This Aged Black Journeyman Relic takes the classic Strat recipe and quietly upgrades everything that matters for tone, feel, and flexibility.

Two piece select alder, a rift sawn maple neck, and a round lam rosewood board set the foundation. Hand wound Dual Mag II pickups and smart half blender wiring give you way more usable sounds than a stock Strat, without getting in your way when you just want to plug in and play.

Journeyman Relic Aged Black: Broken In, Not Beat Up

This finish nails that sweet spot between closet classic and road worn. The lacquer Journeyman Relic treatment feels gently played in, so there is no sticky gloss fighting your hands and no over the top fake wear.

The 2 piece select alder body keeps things balanced and lively. Deep 57 style contours and a contoured neck heel hug your body and make upper fret work feel natural, whether you are comping chords or stretching out for singing bends.

Rift Sawn Maple Neck With A Confident 1959 D Carve

The rift sawn maple neck is all about stability and resonance. The 1959 D profile fills your hand in a really satisfying way, without feeling like a baseball bat that slows you down.

The 9.5 to 12 inch compound radius is a huge part of why this guitar feels so dialed in. Down low, chords feel familiar and comfortable. As you move up the neck, the radius flattens out so big bends stay clean instead of fretting out. Narrow tall 6105 frets and vintage clay dots finish the package with a perfect blend of modern playability and vintage vibe.

Hand Wound Dual Mag II Pickups And Half Blender Magic

This set of Custom Shop hand wound Dual Mag II Strat pickups is the real deal. The bridge has bite and cut that slices through a mix without going ice pick. The neck stays glassy and round, even when you lean into gain. The reverse wound reverse polarity middle pickup gives you that classic 2 and 4 Strat quack with reduced hum.

The half blender wiring with tone saver treble bleed is where the Postmodern name really earns its keep. Positions 1 and 2 let you blend in the neck pickup for tones you simply cannot get on a standard Strat, including that sweet neck and bridge combo. Roll your volume down and the treble bleed keeps things clear instead of muddy.

Custom Shop Hardware That Works For Real Players

A Custom Shop vintage synchronized tremolo gives you that elastic Strat feel with rock solid intonation if you set it up the way you like to play. Vintage style tuners, a bone nut, and the single wing string tree with metal spacer all work together so the guitar stays in tune when you lean on the bar.

Nickel and chrome hardware, a three ply black pickguard, and white knobs and switch tip keep the look classic and mean without getting flashy. It feels like a guitar that has been on a lot of good records already.

Dialed In, Inspected, And Ready For Your Rig

Pictures are of the actual guitar you are buying, serial XN16586, so what you see is what shows up. It gets inspected three times before it leaves and comes with a deluxe hardshell case, strap, and certificate of authenticity.

You also get a free pro setup, a genuine 100 dollar value. Our techs are seasoned players who dial in every guitar like it is going into their own rig, so you get perfect intonation and action set right. Want it your way? Tell us your string gauge and preferred action at checkout and we will nail it before shipping. Free insured 2 to 3 day shipping and our 72 Hour Love It Guarantee mean you can plug in at home and really live with it. If it does not inspire you, we are here to make it right.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The Dual Mag II set feels like a higher definition version of a great vintage Strat. You still get the glassy top and chime, but the lows stay tighter and the mids are more focused, so the guitar cuts without getting harsh. The RWRP middle pickup also helps knock down hum in positions 2 and 4, which is a big win on loud stages.
Real talk, the Postmodern spec is about giving you every advantage without losing the classic feel. You get a compound radius fingerboard, a super stable rift sawn neck, a more comfortable contoured heel, and smarter wiring. On stage or in the studio, that means fewer fights with the guitar and more time in the zone.
A vintage 7.25 inch radius feels great for cowboy chords but can choke out when you bend high. This compound radius keeps the lower frets familiar and comfy, then gradually flattens out as you move up the neck. The result is chords that still feel right and lead lines that bend like butter without fretting out.
No. Journeyman Relic is the middle ground between shiny new and heavy relic. You get a finish that feels broken in, with light checking and wear that makes the guitar feel like an old friend, not a prop. It looks and feels played, not abused.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
