Product Description

Masterbuilt ’58 Strat vibe with Poison Apple attitude

If you have been chasing that alive, woody late 50s Strat feel but want it dialed into a modern stage and studio weapon, this Masterbuilt 1958 Stratocaster Heavy Relic hits that sweet spot. Alder body, AAA birdseye maple neck, and hand wound Fat 50’s pickups all come together in a guitar that feels wide open, touch sensitive, and ready for real work.

Poison Apple Heavy Relic With Real Road-Worn Character

The alder Strat body is finished in Poison Apple, which looks like hot-rodded candy apple red with extra depth and shimmer under the lights. The Heavy Relic treatment is not just for looks; the broken-in lacquer and worn edges make it feel like a guitar that has already survived a lifetime of stages, without any of the sketchy structural baggage that comes with actual vintage.

At 7.6 lbs it sits right in the comfort zone. Light enough that long sets do not wreck your shoulder, solid enough that every note has punch, sustain, and that blooming resonance Strats are famous for. This one rings acoustically before you ever plug in.

AAA Birdseye Maple Neck That Feels Like Home

The AAA birdseye maple neck is the star of the show before you even hit a chord. The C shape, paired with .835 inches at the first fret and .950 inches at the 12th, gives you a substantial handful without ever feeling like a baseball bat. It fills the palm in a really natural way that keeps your fretting hand relaxed.

A 9.5 inch radius maple fingerboard with 21 narrow tall 6105 frets is a killer combo. Chords stay comfortable down low, bends stay glassy and effortless up high, and the taller fret wire gives you that slick, almost scalloped feel for vibrato and control. Black micarta face and side dots keep things classic and easy to see on a dark stage.

Hand-Wound Fat 50’s Pickups: Chime, Grit, And Cut

Loaded with hand wound Fat 50’s pickups, this Strat does the bell like chime, the hollow in between quack, and the pushed, vocal bridge grit without breaking a sweat. The neck stays warm and glassy for slow blues and cleans, the middle is your go to for fat rhythm work, and the bridge has enough bite to slice through a dense mix without turning into an ice pick.

The 5 way lever switch and 250K split pots give you super usable control over the whole range. Roll the volume back and it cleans up into sparkly, piano like clarity. Dig in and it barks with harmonics and texture. It is a killer platform for pedals and also sounds huge straight into a good tube amp.

Masterbuilt By Andy Hicks

This is not a team built Custom Shop piece. It is a true Masterbuilt Strat from Andy Hicks, who cut his teeth in the Jackson Custom Shop, worked alongside Gretsch Senior Master Builder Steve Stern, and even ran production for a high end boutique builder before coming back to Fender. He is a player as well as a builder, and that shows up in the way this guitar responds.

The fretwork, nut work, neck carve, and relic details all feel intentional and musical. Notes bloom evenly up and down the board, chords stay in tune, and nothing gets in the way of your hands. You can tell this was built by someone who obsesses over the details that actually matter on stage and in the studio.

Dialed In By Moore Guitars

Photos are of the actual guitar, not a stock image. This Strat has been inspected when it arrived, inspected again during our Player Perfect setup, and inspected a third time right before it goes in the case. You should have zero surprises when you open the box and hit that first chord.

You also get our 72 Hour Love It Guarantee, free pro setup (a real 100 dollar value), price match guarantee, and access to 0 percent financing and trade ins. Real talk, if you are going to invest in a Masterbuilt, you deserve a shop that sweats the small stuff as much as you do.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Real talk, a Masterbuilt is a different animal. One builder, in this case Andy Hicks, is responsible for the whole guitar from start to finish. You get a neck carve that feels intentional, fretwork that is dialed to the smallest detail, and relic work that looks and feels organic instead of random. Team Built pieces are great, but a Masterbuilt like this one has that extra bit of resonance, response, and personality that you only get when one obsessed builder is steering the ship.
Heavy Relic here means it looks and feels like a Strat that has been played hard for decades, not abused. You will see worn finish through to the wood, checking, rubbed-through arm and belly contours, and aged hardware. The neck feels broken in and smooth with no sticky gloss. Structurally it is rock solid, with all the reliability of a brand new Custom Shop build and all the vibe of a lifer guitar.
The recipe is pure late 50s Strat: alder body, maple neck, 9.5″ radius with narrow tall frets for a slightly more modern feel, and hand wound Fat 50’s pickups that deliver the chime, scoop, and quack everyone loves about that era. The difference is that intonation, tuning stability, fretwork, and playability are all significantly better than what you will usually find on a real vintage piece. You get the vibe and the sound without the maintenance headaches or six figure price tag.
Yes. Every photo on the product page is of this exact Masterbuilt Strat, serial AH0254. We shoot detailed images so you can really see the Heavy Relic work, grain, and birdseye figuring before you buy. If you want to see anything more specific, call us and we can walk you around the guitar in real time or send extra shots. No surprises when you open the case.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
Call us at (888) 794-8482. You’ll talk to a real musician who can answer anything you need to know.
