Product Description

The Thinking Man’s Jaguar

Forget everything you thought you knew about Jaguars. This isn’t just another offset; it’s a ground-up reimagining by one of the most iconic guitarists of our time—Johnny Marr. This pre-owned 2019 model in stunning Metallic KO is a testament to thoughtful design, combining vintage soul with player-centric mods that make it one of the most stable and versatile Jags we’ve ever had in the shop.

From the first chord, you can feel the difference. The neck, a custom shape based on Marr’s own ’65 Jaguar, has a comfortable, substantial feel that’s a world away from some of the toothpick necks of the era. Combined with the vintage 7.25″ radius and a slinky 24″ scale, it’s a rhythm and chord machine that just begs for complex, layered playing. And with a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish, it’s only going to look and feel better with age.

Bare Knuckle Tone, Redefined Switching

The heart of this Jag is its powerhouse electronics. A set of custom-wound Bare Knuckle Johnny Marr single-coils delivers that essential wiry chime and jangle, but with a muscular low-end and midrange punch that standard Jaguar pickups lack. But the real magic is in the switching. Marr ditched the complex array of sliders for an intuitive 4-way blade, giving you the classic bridge, neck, and parallel tones, plus a fourth position that runs the pickups in series for a thick, humbucker-esque snarl. Two upper-horn slide switches—one universal bright cap and one for the series position—give you even more sonic territory to explore.

Stability You Can Lean On

Johnny Marr addressed the Achilles’ heel of vintage offsets: the bridge. This Jag features a Jaguar bridge armed with stable Mustang saddles, nylon post inserts, and a taller tremolo arm with a nylon sleeve to eliminate swing. The result? You can actually use the buttery smooth floating tremolo without knocking the whole thing out of tune. It’s a road-ready Jag built for players, not just collectors.

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Perfect for: Indie Rock • Post-Punk • Alternative • Jangle Pop

Tone

  • Bridge pickup delivers classic Jag cut and jangle with extra body and warmth.
  • Neck pickup is round and clear, perfect for articulate rhythm work without getting muddy.
  • The series position offers a thick, punchy, almost humbucker-like lead tone with boosted mids.
  • Exceptionally dynamic and responsive to pick attack, blooming beautifully with a touch of drive.

Playing Feel

  • Balanced and comfortable alder body that feels right at home on a strap.
  • The custom '65 neck profile fills the hand nicely, ideal for both chordal work and single-note lines.
  • The 24" scale length provides a slinky, easy-playing feel with lower string tension.
  • A true workhorse—the stable hardware and comfortable neck make it a joy for long gigs and sessions.

Versatility

  • Goes from glassy, articulate cleans to gritty, snarling drive with ease.
  • The Bare Knuckle pickups are a fantastic platform for pedals, retaining clarity with fuzz or delay.
  • In the studio, the series/parallel and bright switch options make it a sonic multitool.
  • Cuts through a mix with its signature chime, but the series option adds weight to sit in a denser arrangement.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

It’s a complete upgrade for playability. Instead of the three individual pickup switches, it has a single 4-way blade selector on the lower horn. Position 1 is the bridge, 2 is bridge and neck in parallel (classic Jag tone), 3 is the neck, and position 4 is a powerful series wiring that makes the two single-coils act like a humbucker—thicker, louder, and with more midrange.
They were custom-wound specifically for this model with Johnny Marr’s input. They capture the classic, bright Jaguar chime and sparkle but add a bit more output and a fuller low-end. They have the percussive attack you want from a Jag, but with enough body to handle overdrive without sounding thin.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
