Lefty SG With Real Iommi DNA And P-90 Fury

Tony Iommi pretty much wrote the rulebook on heavy riffs, and this Epiphone Tony Iommi SG Special Lefty drops that vibe straight into your hands without the vintage price tag. Two piece mahogany, PRO P-90s, and upgraded guts give you that thick, snarling grind that still stays articulate when the gain gets stupid.

Built For Heavy Riffs, Designed For Lefties

This is not some generic lefty SG. It is a purpose built, Tony-approved layout for players who lead with their right brain and their left hand. The classic SG shape keeps the weight way down, and at 6.2 lbs this thing feels almost effortless on a strap but still has enough mass to sing and sustain.

The Vintage Cherry finish nails that old school Sabbath look on stage and under lights. It is the kind of guitar that makes you want to hit a low power chord and just let it hang there until the room rattles.

Mahogany Body, Vintage Cherry Finish, Singing Sustain

The two piece solid mahogany body is the heart of this guitar’s voice. Mahogany gives you that warm, mid rich roar that thickens up fuzz pedals, tightens down-tuned riffs, and keeps leads from getting thin or shrill.

Real talk, there is a reason so many iconic heavy records were cut on mahogany SG style guitars. They respond dynamically when you dig in, bloom on held notes, and keep chords clear even when the amp is pushed hard.

Rounded Iommi C Neck That Feels Instantly Familiar

The one piece mahogany neck with the Rounded Iommi C profile hits that sweet spot between chunky and fast. It fills your hand enough for secure bends and vibrato, but it never feels like you are fighting it during fast runs or wide stretches.

The cream binding cleans up the feel along the edges and gives it that classy, old school look. Indian laurel under your fingers feels smooth and broken in, while the GraphTech nut and Grover Rotomatic tuners keep things rock solid when you lean on the vibrato or drop the tuning down for heavier material.

PRO P-90 Power With Upgraded Electronics

The chrome covered Epiphone PRO P-90 pickups are the secret sauce. They have that raw, mid forward grind P-90s are famous for, with enough top end cut to keep thick riffs from turning to mud. Roll the volume back and they clean up into glassy, percussive tones that still punch through a dense mix.

CTS potentiometers and Orange Drop capacitors are the kind of upgrades builders usually keep for higher dollar builds. Here, they give you a smooth, usable sweep on every knob. The 2 volume, 2 tone layout lets you fine tune each pickup so you can go from dark and menacing to bright and biting with a quick flip of the switch.

Case, Monkey Sticker, And A Moore Guitars Setup

You get an Epiphone hardshell case right out of the gate, plus a static cling reproduction of Tony’s legendary “Monkey” sticker to complete the look. And yes, the photos you see are of the actual guitar that will show up at your door.

Before it leaves our Evansville shop, this SG gets our full Player-Perfect setup from techs who actually gig. We check it multiple times, dial in the action and intonation, and ship it fast with free 2 to 3 day delivery. Add in our 14-Day Return Policy and you have plenty of time to plug in, crank up, and see if it earns a permanent spot in your arsenal.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

This Epiphone Tony Iommi SG Special is built to honor the heavily modified 60s SG that powered those early Sabbath records. You get a solid mahogany body, a one piece mahogany neck with a Rounded Iommi C profile, bound neck, PRO P-90 pickups, and upgraded CTS pots with Orange Drop caps. It is voiced and spec'd to deliver that same thick, menacing grind, just without the vintage stress or the five figure price tag.
P-90s sit right between single coils and humbuckers. These PRO P-90s hit hard like a humbucker, with more mid punch and thickness than a typical Strat style pickup, but they still have that snappy attack and clarity. With gain, they grind and snarl in a way that is perfect for doom, stoner rock, and classic metal. Roll the volume back and they open up into surprisingly sweet, usable clean tones.
It absolutely nails Sabbath style high gain, but it is not a one trick pony. The mahogany body and P-90s do blues, classic rock, punk, and alternative rock really well. With the right amp, you can get everything from gritty edge-of-breakup rhythm sounds to warm, vocal lead tones. The controls are very responsive, so you can live on your volume and tone knobs instead of tap dancing on pedals.
If you are a lefty who has been stuck with compromised options, this will feel like a breath of fresh air. The SG body keeps the weight down and balances nicely on a strap, and the Rounded Iommi C neck feels natural whether you are coming from Strats, Teles, or other Gibson style guitars. Everything from the control layout to the case is properly built for left-handed players, not just flipped in software.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
If you order before 3 PM CST on a weekday, it ships the same day. We’ll get it into your hands fast with free, insured 2-3 day shipping.
