Product Description

The Pre-War Cannon, Reimagined

If you’ve been chasing that iconic, woody dreadnought tone that defined bluegrass and folk music, you know the price tag on a vintage piece can be staggering. Enter the Blueridge BR-140. This guitar is a straight-up tribute to those legendary pre-war cannons, built with the tonewoods and craftsmanship that deliver the goods without emptying your wallet. This pre-owned 2021 model is in very good condition and ready to thunder.

All-Solid Tonewoods

The heart of the BR-140’s voice is its all-solid wood construction. A solid Sitka spruce top provides the power, clarity, and dynamic headroom that flatpickers and strummers demand. Paired with solid mahogany back and sides, you get a warm, dry midrange with a fundamental-rich punch that records beautifully and sits perfectly in a mix. The tone is balanced, focused, and just begs to be played hard.

Vintage-Correct Bracing

Under the hood, Blueridge used a pre-war style, forward-shifted X-bracing pattern. This is a huge part of the tonal magic. It allows the top to vibrate more freely, creating a more open, resonant, and bass-rich sound. It’s the secret sauce that gives this guitar its room-filling volume and impressive low-end response. From a delicate fingerstyle passage to a full-force bluegrass G-run, the BR-140 responds with incredible detail and power.

Authentic Feel and Details

The slim mahogany neck is comfortable and fast, offering a playing experience that feels right at home for modern players while retaining a classic feel. Details like the Dalmatian-style pickguard, bone nut and saddle, and intricate mother-of-pearl headstock inlay show a commitment to vintage aesthetics and quality. The Gotoh open-gear tuners complete the look and provide rock-solid tuning stability.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

It’s built to capture that legendary D-18 vibe. It uses the same solid Sitka spruce and solid mahogany tonewood combination and pre-war bracing pattern to deliver a very similar tonal profile: warm, woody, and powerful. While a vintage Martin has decades of aging, the BR-140 offers a remarkably close experience for a fraction of the price.
It means the ‘X’ pattern of the internal top braces is moved closer to the soundhole. This frees up the lower part of the guitar top to vibrate more, resulting in a significantly enhanced bass response, more volume, and a more open, resonant sound. It’s a key feature of highly sought-after vintage dreadnoughts.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship same day in most cases and arrive within 1-4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
