Product Description

Vintage Vibe, Modern Playability

The Martin 000-12E Retro is a killer combination of timeless Martin tone and modern, road-ready features. Right out of the case, the gloss-finished body with that sweet aging toner on the spruce top just sings with classic style. It’s got that comfortable 000-14 fret body size that’s perfect for just about any style, from delicate fingerpicking to digging in with a flatpick. The solid sapele back and sides provide a warm, balanced foundation with a strong midrange that really complements the crispness of the spruce top.

Built to Be Played

Martin knows what players need, and the 000-12E Retro delivers. The neck is a Performing Artist profile with a high-performance taper, which is just a comfortable way of saying it’s fast, smooth, and feels incredible in your hand. Whether you’re grabbing cowboy chords or flying up the ebony fingerboard for a solo, this neck just stays out of your way. The scalloped X-bracing underneath the hood is a big part of the magic, letting the top resonate freely for impressive volume and a ton of dynamic nuance.

Stage-Ready Electronics

When it’s time to plug in, the onboard Martin E1 electronics have you covered. It’s a no-fuss system that translates the guitar’s natural acoustic voice beautifully, so you sound like you, just louder. With a built-in tuner, soundhole-mounted controls for volume and tone, you can dial in your sound quickly and get back to the music. From the coffee shop to the main stage, this guitar is ready to perform.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The Performing Artist (PA) profile with the High-Performance Taper is one of Martin’s more modern, faster-playing necks. It’s designed to be comfortable for a wide range of players, feeling less chunky than some vintage necks and making it super easy to move around the fretboard, especially for electric players crossing over to acoustic.
Sapele is tonally very similar to mahogany, which is why it’s such a popular choice. It delivers a strong, punchy midrange and a warm overall character. Some players find sapele has a little extra top-end sparkle compared to mahogany, but both are fantastic for a balanced, versatile acoustic sound.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship same day in most cases and arrive within 1-4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
