Product Description

The Real Deal: Gibson SG Standard

This is it. The legend, the icon, the rock and roll machine. The Gibson SG Standard in Heritage Cherry isn’t just a guitar; it’s a piece of history that snarls, sings, and screams with a voice that’s defined generations of music. From its devilish horns to its lightning-fast neck, this SG is built for players who demand raw power and effortless playability.

The solid Mahogany body provides the warmth and resonance that’s been the bedrock of countless classic tracks. Finished in a stunning Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer, this guitar will age and check beautifully, developing a unique character with every single note you play. It’s a true workhorse, ready for the stage, the studio, and beyond.

The Heart of the Beast: 490R & 490T Pickups

Loaded with a calibrated pair of 490R and 490T humbuckers, this SG delivers a sonic palette that’s both classic and contemporary. These Alnico II pickups offer a modern take on the legendary PAF sound, giving you that vintage warmth with a bit more midrange punch and top-end clarity. The 490R in the neck is smooth and vocal, perfect for buttery leads and full-bodied chords. Flip to the 490T in the bridge, and you unleash a torrent of aggressive, snarling tone that cuts through any mix with authority.

Unrivaled Playability

The magic of the SG lies in its feel. The Mahogany neck features Gibson’s beloved Rounded profile, a comfortable handful that feels instantly familiar and invites hours of playing without fatigue. Combined with the Rosewood fingerboard and its 12-inch radius, you get a playing surface that’s perfect for both complex chording and blistering, string-bending solos. The long tenon set-neck construction ensures maximum sustain and a rock-solid connection between the neck and body, letting every note bloom to its full potential.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

They’re definitely in the same family, but think of the 490s as a PAF with a modern edge. They use Alnico II magnets like the originals for warmth and sweetness, but they’re wound a bit hotter to provide more midrange punch and a clearer top end. This makes them incredibly versatile for players who need classic tone but also want the ability to handle higher gain settings without getting muddy.
The Rounded profile is a real sweet spot for many players. It’s not as thin as a ’60s SlimTaper, but not as massive as a ’50s baseball bat neck. It has a comfortable, substantial feel in your hand that’s great for gripping chords and gives your thumb a solid anchor point for bends. If you find super thin necks to be a little fatiguing, the Rounded profile often feels just right.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship same day in most cases and arrive within 1-4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
