Product Description

Vintage Vibe, Modern Reliability

Here’s the lowdown: this Fender Custom Shop ’66 Precision Bass is the real deal. It’s got the soul of a well-loved vintage instrument, but with the flawless construction you expect from the Custom Shop. This one is pre-owned but in mint condition, so it’s got that broken-in feel without any of the baggage. The Journeyman Faded Bleached 3-Color Sunburst finish is absolutely stunning, giving it the look of a bass that’s seen its share of stages over the decades.

The Heart of the Tone

At the core of this P-Bass is a two-piece alder body, delivering that classic, balanced tonal foundation that has defined countless records. Paired with a quartersawn maple neck and a gorgeous AAA rosewood fingerboard, you get a resonance and sustain that you can feel in your chest. The neck’s ’60 P-Bass Oval “C” shape is that perfect middle ground, substantial enough for a solid grip but comfortable enough for hours of playing.

Hand-Wound Thunder

Let’s talk about the engine room. This bass is loaded with a Hand-Wound ’65-’70 P-Bass Relic pickup, and it delivers the goods. We’re talking pure, unadulterated P-Bass thump. It has the warmth and woody character of a vintage pickup, with a focused low-end and a punchy attack that cuts through any mix without getting muddy. Whether you’re laying down a solid foundation or stepping out for a melodic run, this pickup responds to every nuance of your playing.

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Perfect for: Rock • Motown • Funk • Soul

Tone

  • Delivers classic P-Bass thump with focused lows and a woody midrange.
  • Warm, round, and punchy, it's the quintessential sound of countless hit records.
  • Roll the tone knob back for deep, mellow Motown vibes or open it up for aggressive rock grit.
  • Extremely responsive to playing dynamics; play softly for a gentle bloom or dig in for a satisfying growl.

Playing Feel

  • The alder body is resonant and well-balanced, feeling solid without being cumbersome.
  • The '60 P-Bass Oval “C” neck profile feels instantly familiar and comfortable.
  • The 7.25" radius and medium jumbo frets provide a classic feel with effortless bending.
  • A true workhorse that feels great for long gigs and studio sessions.

Versatility

  • Goes from clean and warm to gritty and overdriven with just a turn of your amp's gain knob.
  • A perfect platform for pedals; it handles fuzz, overdrive, and compression beautifully.
  • Sits perfectly in a recording mix, providing weight and presence without fighting for space.
  • The definition of a 'sit-in-the-mix' bass, providing the low-end glue for any genre.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The Journeyman is a tasteful relic that feels like a well-cared-for vintage instrument. You’ll find some light finish checking and subtly aged hardware, but no heavy wear-and-tear. It gives the bass authentic vintage character without feeling beat up.
This hand-wound pickup is built to capture the magic of the late ’60s era. It offers a warmth and woody character you won’t find in a standard pickup. It has a really focused low-end punch that’s perfect for sitting in a mix, whether you’re playing live or in the studio.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship same day in most cases and arrive within 1-4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
