Product Description

A Relic with a Story to Tell

This isn’t just another Strat; this is a sonic time capsule with a twist. Right off the bat, the Fender Custom Shop ’62 Heavy Relic commands your attention with its incredible Aged Daphne Blue over 3-Color Sunburst finish. Every ding, check, and worn spot tells a story, giving it the look and feel of a road warrior that’s seen decades of legendary gigs. Paired with the tastefully aged gold hardware and a Voo Doo Shell pickguard, this guitar has an undeniable vintage mojo that feels earned, not just applied.

A Trio of Hand-Wound Tonal Titans

Here’s where things get really interesting. The Custom Shop loaded this Strat with a very specific trio of hand-wound pickups for maximum versatility. In the neck, you’ve got a Hand-Wound ’69 for those glassy, bell-like Hendrix and Gilmour tones. Think pure, articulate, chime with a touch of psychedelic bloom. The middle position houses a Hand-Wound Fat 50’s for a beefier, warmer take on classic Strat quack, perfect for rhythm work that needs to cut. Then, prepare for liftoff. The bridge is a Hand-Wound Texas Special, reverse-angled for tighter lows and fatter highs, delivering that iconic SRV-style bite and searing lead tone that pushes an amp into sweet, gritty overdrive.

Plays Like a Dream

The foundation of this guitar’s incredible feel is its quarter-sawn roasted maple neck, shaped into a substantial Large “C” profile that really fills the hand. It’s topped with a dark AAA rosewood fingerboard with a modern 9.5″ radius and 21 jumbo frets, making big bends and slick lead lines feel absolutely effortless. The heavy relic treatment on the neck back feels like you’ve been playing it for years, smooth, worn-in, and utterly comfortable from the first chord.

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Anatomy of a Tone Machine

Perfect for: Blues • Classic Rock • Psychedelic Rock • Texas Blues

Tone

  • Searing, aggressive bridge tone with tight lows and a punchy midrange.
  • Glassy, bell-like neck tones with sweet highs and a controlled low end.
  • Classic "quack" in positions 2 and 4, with the Fat 50's adding extra body.
  • Highly dynamic and responsive to pick attack, cleaning up beautifully with the volume knob.

Playing Feel

  • Well-balanced Alder body feels substantial and resonant against the player.
  • The Large “C” neck profile offers a comfortable, firm grip for both chordal and lead work.
  • Jumbo frets and a 9.5" radius make string bending feel smooth and effortless.
  • The heavily relic'd neck finish provides a smooth, broken-in feel for hours of comfortable play.

Versatility

  • Goes from glassy cleans to gritty Texas blues and soaring rock leads with a flick of the switch.
  • A fantastic pedal platform—the '69 pickup loves fuzz and wah, while the Texas Special handles overdrive like a champ.
  • Records beautifully, offering three distinct and usable single-coil voices to sit perfectly in any mix.
  • Cuts through a live band mix with authority, thanks to the midrange presence of the Texas Special and the clarity of the '69.

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

This H/S/S (Hot/Standard/Standard) combo gives you incredible versatility. You get the sweet, glassy ’69 neck pickup for classic tones, the balanced Fat 50’s for rhythm, and the hot Texas Special bridge pickup for powerful, searing leads—all in one guitar. It’s a player-centric mod that covers a massive tonal range.
By reversing the pickup, the pole pieces under the lower strings are moved closer to the bridge, tightening up their response and adding clarity. The pole pieces under the higher strings move slightly further away, which fattens them up and reduces any potential ice-pick shrillness. It’s a classic mod for a more balanced, powerful lead tone.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship within 1–4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
