Product Description

A Modern Jumbo with a Vintage Vibe

Meet the Martin J-16E Cream, a guitar that blends classic Martin craftsmanship with a striking, modern aesthetic. The first thing you’ll notice is that gorgeous gloss cream spruce top, a real head-turner. But the real magic happens when you pair it with the solid East Indian Rosewood back and sides. This timeless tonewood combination delivers a sound that’s both powerful and nuanced, with deep, resonant bass and sparkling highs that seem to bloom with every note. It’s the kind of guitar that feels instantly familiar, yet full of new songs.

Commanding Tone, Comfortable Feel

The Jumbo body size provides thunderous projection and a full, dynamic voice that’s perfect for strummers and singer-songwriters. The scalloped X-bracing underneath the hood allows the top to vibrate freely, enhancing resonance and sustain for a sound that fills the room. But don’t let the big body fool you; the Modified Low Oval neck profile is incredibly comfortable, making it easy to navigate the ebony fingerboard for hours on end. The satin finish on the neck, back, and sides feels smooth and fast, never sticky.

Ready for the Stage and Studio

When it’s time to plug in, the onboard L.R. Baggs Element electronics capture the guitar’s natural acoustic voice with stunning clarity. This simple, reliable system ensures your tone translates perfectly, whether you’re on a noisy stage or recording direct. From its nickel open-gear tuners to its bone saddle, every detail of the J-16E is designed for performance, giving you a gig-ready instrument that sounds as good as it looks.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

The Jumbo (J-14) body is typically larger and rounder than a Dreadnought, which gives it a more balanced tone with a powerful low end and clear highs. While a Dreadnought is known for its punchy midrange, the Jumbo offers a bigger, more encompassing sound that’s fantastic for powerful strumming and filling sonic space.
A satin finish feels incredibly smooth and fast to the touch, unlike a gloss finish which can sometimes feel sticky, especially during long gigs. It also allows the wood to resonate a bit more freely, contributing to a more open, organic tone.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship same day in most cases and arrive within 1-4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
