Product Description

The King of the Flat-Tops

There are few guitars as iconic as the Gibson SJ-200. From the moment you see it, you know you’re in the presence of greatness. Dubbed the “King of the Flat-Tops,” this Super Jumbo has a commanding voice and a larger-than-life personality that’s been the backbone of countless classic recordings. This SJ-200 Original is a stunning example, boasting a breathtaking figured Flame Maple back and sides, a classic Vintage Sunburst finish, and all the ornate details that make this model a true legend. It’s not just a guitar, it’s a piece of music history.

Iconic Tone Woods & Thundering Projection

The heart of the SJ-200’s tone comes from its massive Super Jumbo body and classic wood pairing. A solid Sitka Spruce top provides the initial sparkle, clarity, and dynamic range, while the gorgeous Flame Maple back and sides add a bright, focused character with a tight low end. This combination produces a sound that is both powerful and articulate. It can fill a room with massive, open chords or deliver crisp, detailed single-note lines with ease. The traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing underneath allows the top to vibrate freely, creating a deep, resonant boom that is simply undeniable.

Stage-Ready Electronics

While its acoustic voice is legendary, this SJ-200 is built to perform. It comes factory-equipped with an LR Baggs VTC (Volume and Tone Control) undersaddle pickup system. This system is renowned for its ability to capture the guitar’s natural acoustic warmth and dynamic response without coloring the sound. The soundhole-mounted controls are intuitive and out of sight, allowing you to quickly dial in your perfect tone on stage. Whether you’re in the studio or under the lights, you’ll get a rich, full, and authentic representation of the SJ-200’s massive sound.

Unmistakable Gibson Craftsmanship

Every detail on this guitar speaks to its heritage. The 2-piece Maple neck with its comfortable Rounded profile feels fantastic in your hand, inviting you to play for hours. The Rosewood fingerboard is adorned with elegant Mother-of-Pearl Graduated Crown inlays, a signature of the SJ-200. And of course, there’s the iconic four-bar Moustache bridge and the ornate, flower-and-vine engraved pickguard, details that make this guitar as much a work of art as it is a musical instrument. Topped off with gold Gotoh Keystone tuners, this guitar is the complete package.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

Great question. Maple is a hardwood that produces a bright, clear tone with excellent projection and note separation. Unlike mahogany, which is warmer, or rosewood, which has rich overtones, maple provides a focused sound with a tight low end. It’s what gives the SJ-200 its signature ‘boom’ without getting muddy, making it perfect for cutting through a mix.
The Super Jumbo is definitely a large-bodied guitar, which is key to its powerful voice. While a smaller player might find it a bit of an armful at first, the rounded contours make it surprisingly comfortable. What you get in return is a playing experience like no other, the guitar resonates against your whole body. It’s an instrument you truly feel as much as you hear.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 72-Hour Love-It Guarantee. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship same day in most cases and arrive within 1-4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
