MOORE GUITARS PRESENTS

THE LEGEND

The Goldtop That Isn’t Gold

1957 PAF HumbuckersMurphy Lab Heavy AgedMade to Measure Custom Build

1957. It is the most important year in Gibson history. It was the year Seth Lover invented the Humbucker (the PAF) and changed the sound of rock and roll forever.

Historically, a 1957 Les Paul Standard is Gold. That is the rule. But we decided to break the rules.

This is a Made to Measure (M2M) creation. We went to the Gibson Custom Shop with a vision: “Give us the fat neck, the long tenon, and the roar of a ’57, but paint it like a 1960s hot rod.”

The result is this Heavy Aged Candy Apple Red masterpiece. It looks like a guitar that was bought new in ’57, refinished by a custom shop in ’65, and has been touring arenas ever since. It has the “Harrison’s Lucy” vibe, but with the beefier, more aggressive neck of a ’57.

It is a collision of eras that absolutely works.

THE ALCHEMY

The “Murphy Lab” Time Travel

How do you make a new guitar feel 60 years old? You give it to the Murphy Lab.

The “Heavy Aged” Magic

This isn’t just scratched paint. The lacquer is chemically aged to shatter and check exactly like vintage nitrocellulose. The hardware is oxidized. The binding is rolled. When you touch this guitar, your brain tells you, “This is old.” It doesn’t feel sticky or new; it feels like a comfortable pair of boots.

The Unpotted Custom Buckers

These are the closest things to real 1950s PAFs you can buy. Because they are unpotted (no wax), they are microphonic in the best way. They hear everything. They have that “telephonic” clarity where you can hear the wood, not just the string.

The ’57 Profile

This is the “Chunky C” neck. It’s big. It fills your hand. And that mass equals sustain. When you hit a note on this guitar, the neck vibrates so hard it feels like the guitar is breathing.

FROM THE FLOOR

Why We Built This One

At Moore Guitars, we don’t just order from a catalog. We dream up the guitars that Gibson isn’t brave enough to build. This M2M was our vision brought to life.

Cory from Moore Guitars

“When we spec’d this out with the Custom Shop, we knew we were taking a risk. You don’t usually mess with the ’57 Goldtop formula. But when the box finally arrived and I popped the latches, I just started laughing. It’s the coolest thing I’ve seen in months.

We built this because we wanted the best of both worlds: the massive neck and endless sustain of a ’57, but with the nasty, hot-rodded look of a custom color. The ‘Heavy Aging’ is scary good—the back of the neck feels worn down to the wood, so it’s fast and smooth, not sticky.

I plugged it in to make sure the Custom Buckers had that ‘air’ around the notes, and it screams. This isn’t a guitar you find on a shelf; this is a guitar we had to force into existence. It’s pure attitude.”

— Cory, Moore Guitars

THE MOORE GUITARS PROMISE

You are buying from gigging musicians, not a warehouse robot.

We verified the “Made to Measure” spec sheet—this is a genuine custom build. We checked the heavy checking on the finish to ensure it’s structurally sound while looking road-worn. We tested the volume pots to make sure they clean up the amp when you roll them down (the mark of a great Les Paul).

You can buy a history lesson, or you can buy a weapon. This M2M Les Paul is for the player who respects tradition but refuses to look like everyone else.

Be the only one.

Product Description

A ’57 Les Paul Reborn For Players, Not Collectors

If you have ever dreamed about owning a real 1957 Les Paul, you already know those guitars live in the land of vaults, insurance riders, and six figure price tags. This Made To Measure Murphy Lab ’57 from the Gibson Custom Shop gets you frighteningly close to that experience without turning you into a museum curator.

Gibson studied golden era originals down to the gram and contour, then recreated the recipe with hide glue construction, true historic parts, and ultra detailed aging. The result is a guitar that looks, feels, and responds like a road worn original, but is meant to be played hard every night instead of hidden away.

Made To Measure Custom Shop With True Historic DNA

This is not an off the rack Custom Shop build. It is a Made To Measure ’57 Les Paul Standard that started life as a specific custom order and came off the bench with extra attention to spec and detail. The one piece light mahogany back and two piece plain maple top give you that classic Les Paul punch, bloom, and sustain that records and mixes love.

Hide glue in the rim construction keeps the whole instrument lively and resonant, so you feel chords vibrate against your ribs and hear notes ring longer than you expect. From the routing for the P 90 and Custombucker to the .09 cream top binding and true historic plastics, this thing is dripping with old school Gibson DNA.

Candy Red Murphy Lab Heavy Aged Finish

The Candy Red gloss top over the 2019 GT style back and rims is pure eye candy. Under stage lights it shifts from deep blood red to hot rod cherry, and the heavy Murphy Lab aging gives it the vibe of a guitar that has lived on the road for decades.

The checking, wear, and hardware patina are not random or cheesy. They are intentionally mapped so the guitar feels broken in where your hands naturally land. No sticky neck, no plasticky gloss, just a smooth, dry, familiar feel that invites long sessions and big bends.

P 90 Neck And Custombucker Bridge: The Best Of Both Worlds

Here is where this one really separates itself from a standard dual humbucker ’57. The neck position is a CS P 90 soap bar with a historic cream cover that gives you huge, open single coil tone. Think glassy yet woody cleans, snarling mid gain, and that touch sensitive grind that lets you ride your volume knob instead of your pedals.

In the bridge you get an unpotted Custombucker that nails the sweet spot between clarity and muscle. It has the bite and cut you want for rock rhythm, but still stays articulate when you roll back the tone or dig into lead lines. Together they cover everything from soulful cleans to thick, singing overdrive without ever turning to mud.

58 True Historic Neck And Rosewood Board

The mahogany neck uses a 58 True Historic style carve that fills your hand without feeling like a baseball bat. It has that rounded shoulder profile that lets you anchor your thumb and still move fast when you need to. No machine rolled edges means the feel is authentic and substantial, not generic and slimmed down.

The one piece Indian rosewood fingerboard and Jescar fretwire keep bends smooth and intonation solid all the way up the neck. True historic inlays, cream binding, and tortoise side dots complete the vintage look, but what you will really notice is how easy it is to forget about the guitar and just focus on your playing.

Built To Be Played, Not Pampered

Real talk, this is absolutely a legacy piece that would be at home in any serious collection, but it was built to live on stages and in studios. The nickel hardware, ABR 1 non wire bridge, lightweight tailpiece, and Kluson reissue tuners are all spec’d to hold up to heavy use while keeping the vibe firmly in late 50s territory.

This exact guitar, serial 74390, is sitting in our Evansville, Indiana shop right now. It has been inspected three times, given our free Player Perfect setup, and is ready for a flight case and a loud amp. Pictures are of the actual guitar, we gladly take trade ins, and you can even spread it out with flexible financing.

When you choose Moore Guitars, you are not just buying an instrument. You are tapping into a crew of players who live this stuff every day and back it up with a 72 Hour Love It Guarantee, free 2 to 3 day shipping, and old school customer service.

The Lowdown

The Lowdown

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

This is not a standard run Murphy Lab. It is a Made To Measure ’57 Les Paul that started as a custom order, with a one piece light mahogany back, plain maple top, and a P 90 neck plus Custombucker bridge layout you will not see every day. Add the Candy Red finish, true historic parts, and heavy Murphy Lab aging, and you are looking at a unique build that feels like a dialed in vintage piece the moment you plug in.
The P 90 in the neck gives you more clarity and articulation than a typical neck humbucker, with a woody, vocal midrange that loves edge of breakup tones. The unpotted Custombucker in the bridge still gives you all the classic Les Paul roar, but with extra harmonic content and a little more bite. Together they cover a wider tonal range than a traditional dual humbucker setup, especially if you like working your volume and tone controls.
Nope. The look is a big part of the appeal, but the feel is where it really earns its keep. The finish is thinner and broken in, which helps the one piece mahogany back and maple top resonate more freely than thick, glassy poly. On the neck you are not fighting sticky gloss, just a smooth, worn in surface that feels like a favorite guitar you have been playing for years. The hardware aging also keeps the vibe consistent from every angle.
A good Les Paul lives in that middle ground where it is solid enough to sound huge but balanced enough to wear for a whole set. At 9 pounds, this one hits that zone. It is not a featherweight, but the way the weight is distributed and the contour of the body and neck make it feel planted rather than punishing. If you are used to classic Les Pauls, you will feel right at home.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
