Product Description

A Modern Classic, Ready to Roar

This pre-owned 2022 ESP LTD EC-401 is a straight-up rock and metal machine, period. It takes that iconic single-cutaway body shape we all love and supercharges it with modern features for players who demand power, precision, and playability. Dressed in a sinister Black finish with multi-ply binding, it’s got a look that’s as aggressive as its tone. This one’s in Very Good Condition, ready for its next chapter of high-gain glory.

The Heart of the Beast: Active EMG Power

The soul of this EC-401’s sound comes from its legendary pickup combination. You get the EMG 81 in the bridge and the EMG 60 in the neck. The 81 delivers that tight, searing, high-output crunch with incredible note definition that has defined metal for decades. For rhythm work, it’s a percussive and articulate powerhouse. Flip to the EMG 60 in the neck, and you get a surprisingly versatile active tone. It’s thick, boosted, and harmonically rich, perfect for glassy clean passages or fluid, vocal-like lead lines that sing for days.

Built for Speed and Comfort

ESP knows what players need for performance, and this guitar delivers. The 3-piece Mahogany neck is carved into their popular Thin U profile, a shape that feels substantial enough for chording but slim enough for effortless speed. Combined with a 24.75″ scale length and 24 Extra Jumbo frets on a smooth Macassar Ebony fingerboard, string bending is a breeze and upper-fret access is unrestricted thanks to the set-thru neck construction. This design also provides a massive boost in resonance and sustain, letting notes bloom and hang in the air.

Tone

  • Bridge pickup delivers a tight, articulate, and aggressive crunch with razor-sharp definition, perfect for high-gain rhythm.
  • Neck pickup offers a thick, powerful, and clear tone with rich harmonics, ideal for fluid solos and surprisingly glassy cleans.
  • The dual volume/single tone layout allows for fine-tuning the blend and character of the active pickups.
  • Responds instantly to your attack, from subtle dynamics to full-on aggressive picking, with zero mud.

Playing Feel

  • The classic mahogany body feels solid and balanced, sitting comfortably against the player.
  • The Thin U neck profile and 24.75" scale length make for a fast, slinky, and effortless playing experience.
  • Set-thru neck construction provides seamless access to all 24 frets, with no heel getting in the way.
  • Engineered for high-performance playing, this guitar remains comfortable and responsive even during long sessions.

Versatility

  • While built for gain, the EMG 60 provides excellent, clear clean tones, and rolling back the volume knobs cleans up the signal nicely.
  • The active EMG's provide a powerful, low-noise signal that is an incredible platform for pedals.
  • In the studio, this guitar records with punch and clarity, sitting perfectly in a dense mix without needing much EQ.

We get it. Buying a guitar you haven’t played is a big decision. You need to know it’s going to feel right, sound right, and inspire you the second you open the case. We put together the questions we’d be asking if we were in your shoes—the real-world stuff that specs alone can’t answer. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, just give us a call.

This guitar is tailor-made for rock and metal players who need a reliable, high-output instrument. The active EMG pickups, fast neck, and solid construction make it perfect for everything from tight rhythm playing to screaming leads. If you play with gain, you’ll feel right at home.
Active pickups like the EMG 81 and 60 use a preamp to boost the signal, resulting in higher output, lower noise, and enhanced clarity, especially under heavy distortion. They provide a very consistent and articulate tone that’s become a standard in modern metal and rock.
Of course. Every guitar gets our full Player-Perfect™ setup, but tell us your preferred string gauge and action at checkout, and we’ll dial it in exactly to your spec before it leaves the shop.
This guitar is covered by our 14-Day Return Policy. If you’re not completely inspired by it, just let us know. We’ll make it right.
Orders ship same day in most cases and arrive within 1-4 business days with free, insured shipping. We’ll get it into your hands as quickly as we can.
Call us at (888) 794-8482. You’ll talk to a real musician who can answer anything you need to know.
