Before we get into the hard specs of this particular guitar, lets talk about "this one" - let's get an overall "players" view of this instrument. Acoustic guitars tonal varieties can be huge. From minute details in shoulder design, body depth, body size, bracing patterns, and especially wood types, the sound projection can vary widely! The big three tone-woods (Maple, Mahogany, and Rosewood) all provide unique characteristics. The Gibson Dove model has been a Gibson staple for close to 65 years, and this one is as close to the original as you can get - it's a proven winner!
This particular guitar features flame maple back and sides (offering excellent note separation and clarity), while still delivering a strong, defined low end. The square shoulders in the upper bout produce a wonderfully balanced tonal output that is warm and clear. This enables the player to produce an amazing array of "tonal palettes" - painting the tone in many different colors just by altering your right hand technique - whether fingerstyle, light, or heavy picks! What this particular writer loves about maple guitars is how "transparent" the tone is - given the players right hand technique as wide ranges of tones are available given the touch of the players hand (or pick thickness and material) to the strings to activate the Sitka Spruce top.
Just looking at the guitar itself is inspiring given the attention to detail from the inlays, bindings, and the Original Vintage Cherry Sunburst showing off the flame maple. This guitar begs you to pick it up and play it.
The LR Baggs VTC (volume/tone control) is a great addition to help you dial in the exact tone you're looking for if you need to plug in for live or studio sessions. (cool tip: if you're recording, use two channels - one for the LR Baggs ,and then throw a condenser mic about 3" from the12th fret....then balance it out in the mix!). The nitrocellulose lacquer finish looks amazing and will gracefully age giving you an amazing legacy guitar for your collection.
