Notes from the Moore Staff:
There are so many things that we could talk about concerning these brand new Gold Label offerings from Taylor, you'd need a coffee break half way through; so let's just try to bullet point a few items that you want to make sure to keep front and center. Imagine going back in time and finding just a few of those treasured elements that made that period of guitar building historical and bring them forward with the new technologies available in guitar building. This writer spent years getting to know both of these guitar making pioneers, and I can personally attest to how they work together to create and combine to make the best use of the materials and technologies that are around them. No one has made a greater mark in the manufacturing of musical instruments then Bob Taylor; and that combined with Andy Powers Mad Scientist workshop? Well - new creations are happening, and they are extraordinary!
This is a whole new take on the body shape - its a "Super" Auditorium. Andy Powers has delicately altered a few measurements here and there to bring out a few nuances that make this guitar sound excitingly different then the Grand Auditoriums prior to this. There is no cutaway, and the sound seems deeper and fuller then ever before.
There is a whole new version of how the neck attaches to the body with a long tenon neck joint as well as a whole new thought process involving neck adjustments.
The V-Class bracing got a modest tweak with some fanned bracing ideas from the past.
Many parts of this "guitar recipe" are well known to Taylor Guitar fans: torrefied Sitka spruce tops, Standard Carve mahogany necks, and a 15-inch-radius ebony fingerboard seem common place lately, but here's an interesting switch - an LR Baggs Element VTC electronics is standard on this model. Taylor guitars are known for their effortless playability and stage-ready sound that's become a Taylor benchmark for acoustic players around the world, and this one will not disappoint in that regard. Dash in a few old-school cosmetics and add in a revamped headstock shape, a new script logo, and throw in a new Continental fingerboard and pickguard inlay and you have a whole new guitar for the taking!
Notes from Taylor Guitars:
Designed by Andy Powers to produce a new voice rich with seasoned warmth and power, the new Gold Label 814e Koa introduces players to a new kind of sound inspired by the classic sounds of the vintage era. This model features a new body shape we're calling the Super Auditorium, which resembles our Grand Auditorium but with slightly wider contours that help coax out more volume and greater low-end presence. Hawaiian koa back and sides paired with a torrefied Sitka spruce top generate stunning midrange power and richness complemented by warmth and depth usually only found in older, more played-in guitars. Inside, a fanned variant of our V-Class bracing helps add even more volume and sustain while maintaining focus and clarity even at the highest volumes. A new long-tenon neck joint adds to the litany of innovations, improving sonic transfer for greater resonance and easy adjustability. The Gold Label 814e Koa sports a striking appointment package headlined by our new Continental inlays, a new pickguard design, a Honduran rosewood bridge, grained ivoroid trim, and antique chrome Gotoh 510 tuners with ebony buttons, while a full-body gloss showcases koa's natural highlights and variegation. This model ships with LR Baggs Element VTC electronics and a deluxe hardshell case with a British Cocoa exterior.
