A few notes from the Moore Guitars staff concerning this beautiful D-18

Before we get into the “hard specs” of this particular guitar, let's get an overall, holistic view of this instrument. Dreadnaught shapes are known to offer incredible volume and power while providing great projection!  These "battle ships" were designed over 100 years ago to "go to war" against the higher volume powered banjo's and mandolins!  The first guitar sized and strong enough to be strung up with steel strings! Martin has taken their original design and created this "modern take" to offer the player some amazing benefits (it's not only about the playability and the tone), so let's look at just a few of these:

This guitar features an incredible 2-way adjustable truss rod that not only is 1/2 the weight of a standard truss rod, but it gives you the capability to dial in the exact relief you need, while at the same time being lighter, this allows the guitar to feel a little more balanced while resting on your knee or being supported by a strap while standing.

  • The VTS Spruce top adds some sonic "spice" to the tone by allowing the guitar to ....well...sound "older and more broke in".
  • The bridge plate is carbon fiber.  Again - this is just as strong (if not stronger) then traditional wooded plates, but is again - half the weight; and some folks will say that this makes the guitar a little louder, and provides a little more "ooomph" to the volume!
  • Liquid metal bridge pins - again - this is all "part of the package" of the Modern Deluxe series of guitars that Martin has actually measured and can show a slight volume increase.
  • Being a mahogany back and sides, this guitar is the perfect companion for strumming as well as fingerstyle.  Mahogany gives you that built in compression that seems to automatically smooth out a players right hand providing the player a wonderful playing experience.

At the end of the day, most Martin buyers strive for a few things - (well for one, an old Martin, but that's a story for another time!), historic accuracy, great tone, great playability, and a guitar they can count on to inspire their creativity.  This series delivers on those desires, and for those of us who appreciate historic dreadnaught size guitars, this D-28 truly delivers!

Per Martin Guitars:

The D-18 Modern Deluxe is a new take on Martin Vintage. This guitar is packed with custom features and modern technology that you have to see, feel, and hear for yourself. The vintage appointments include a spruce VINTAGE TONE SYSTEM® (VTS) top, a dovetail neck joint, and natural protein glue construction that give it the rich, fully aged Martin tone that has inspired generations. The look is unlike anything in our production line to date with East Indian rosewood binding, stylish gold frets, gold open-gear tuners, and a unique 1930s style script logo inlaid in pearl on the headstock. Some ultra-modern features include Liquidmetal® bridge pins with red dots and a composite carbon fiber bridgeplate that boosts volume. And we’ve included a new neck shape that is slightly asymmetrical for maximum hand comfort up and down the fretboard. This guitar is anything but standard.

- Our sales staff are all musicians! What’s more important than communication? We speak your language. Whether you’re a beginner or a professional player, we’ve been in your shoes. A lot of aspects of the guitar are intangible, and a non-player just can’t understand. It’s a guitar thing. But we can talk about tone and feel in the same language you use. We know what it means to love an instrument, and we want to help you find your new love.

You should have NO disappointments when you see this guitar and hold it for its first strum!
