A few notes from the Moore Guitars staff concerning this beautiful 000-28:
Before we get into the “hard specs” of this particular guitar, let's get an overall, holistic view of this instrument. "000" shapes are known to offer incredible volume and power given their smaller size, while still providing great projection! This "modern take" on a classic size and design offers the player some amazing benefits - it's not only about the playability and the tone, so let's look at just a few of these:
- This guitar features an incredible 2-way adjustable truss rod that not only is 1/2 the weight of a standard truss rod, but it gives you the capability to dial in the exact relief you need, while at the same time being lighter, this allows the guitar to feel a little more balanced while resting on your knee or being supported by a strap while standing.
- The VTS Spruce top adds some sonic "spice" to the tone by allowing the guitar to ....well...sound "older and more broke in".
- The bridge plate is carbon fiber. Again - this is just as strong (if not stronger) then traditional wooded plates, but is again - half the weight; and some folks will say that this makes the guitar a little louder, and provides a little more "ooomph" to the volume!
- Liquid metal bridge pins - again - this is all "part of the package" of the Modern Deluxe series of guitars that Martin has actually measured and can show a slight volume increase.
Let's briefly talk about the size - there is always a little bit of confusion about the difference between an OM and a 000. Let's try to answer that with one sentence - the bodies are the same, but the neck scale is shorter on the 000 - 24.9" vs 25.4". This provides an OM to "feel" a little more like a "standard sized" guitar in terms of "reach" and string tension. Sometimes ("sometimes") players that are a little "heavy in their right hand" will prefer the longer scale due to the higher string tension, so they would gravitate to the OM; while others may prefer the lighter tension 24.9" scale of a 000. There is a definite "comfort" aspect to the 000's shorter scale and tension that just feels...well... "ahhhhh"!
At the end of the day, most Martin buyers strive for a few things - (an old Martin, but that's another story for another time!), historic accuracy, great tone, great playability, and a guitar they can count on to inspire their creativity. This series delivers on those desires, and for those of us (this writer included) who appreciate small bodied guitars, this "triple-O" delivers on the promise.
Per Martin Guitars: The 000-28 Modern Deluxe is packed with vintage appointments, custom features, and modern technology. A spruce VINTAGE TONE SYSTEM® (VTS) top, dovetail neck joint, and natural protein glue construction deliver the rich, fully-aged Martin tone that has inspired generations. European flamed maple binding, stylish gold frets, gold open-gear tuners, and a unique 1930s-style script logo inlaid in pearl on the headstock give it a look to match its sound. Ultra-modern features like Liquidmetal® bridge pins with red dots and a composite carbon fiber bridgeplate, boost volume, making this a guitar players dream. The 000-28 Modern Deluxe comes with a hardshell case and is strung with Martin Authentic Acoustic Lifespan® 2.0 light gauge strings.
