Notes about this Gibson Hummingbird Studio Rosewood from the Moore Guitars staff:

Before diving into the finer details of this particular guitar, let’s take a step back and look at the big picture. Dreadnought body shapes are celebrated for their volume and power—but without balance, that power can come at the cost of tone. The Gibson Hummingbird addresses this with a smart design choice: modified square shoulders that enhance note clarity and provide better dynamic control.

This body shape helps tighten up the low end and reduce the muddiness often associated with round-shouldered acoustics. Think of the body shape like the speaker cabinet in an electric rig—just as a 1x12, 2x10, or 4x12 cab dramatically changes tone and projection, the same concept applies here. The square-shouldered Hummingbird body acts as a finely tuned sound chamber, offering both power and precision.

Two often-overlooked features further elevate this instrument:

  1. The body has a slightly deeper depth than standard models, enhancing low-end response, sustain, and overall fullness.

  2. It features a 24.75" scale length—shorter than the typical 25.5" scale found on most acoustics, and the same as a Gibson Les Paul. The result? A softer string tension at pitch that delivers a uniquely smooth, responsive playing feel—ideal for both fingerstyle and rhythm work.

Rounding out the package is an L.R. Baggs™ Element Bronze active under-saddle piezo pickup, a satin nitrocellulose finish, and a Gibson hard shell case—making this Hummingbird not only a standout in tone and playability, but a tremendous value as well.

Notes per Gibson:

The updated Hummingbird Studio Rosewood is hand-built using all solid tonewoods and is equipped with an Advanced Response profile utile neck for smooth, easy playability. It features a full-depth body for enhanced tonal response and a satin nitrocellulose finish, giving it the look and feel of a long-treasured musical companion. Available in Satin Natural and Satin Rosewood Burst finishes (including a left-handed model), the Hummingbird Studio Rosewood has an L.R. Baggs™ Element Bronze active under-saddle piezo pickup for easy studio-quality plug-and-play anywhere. Packaged in an included hardshell case for portability, this is the Hummingbird you’ve been waiting for!
