A few notes from the Moore Guitars staff:

Before we get into the hard specs of this particular guitar, lets talk about "this one"!  We've looked this one over closely, and it is a truly fine specimen of this Gibson "workhorse" model! (By the way - did you know that when this guitar was released, it was named the J45 because it was a Jumbo that cost $45?  Maybe you'll win a trivia contest or something!)  Okay - anyway - whether you play country, classic rock, rock, pop - whatever - it doesn't matter because this particular guitar does them all very well.  It carries a classic Jumbo mahogany tone.  Mahogany is one of the "big three" tonewoods of the acoustic guitar world (along with maple and rosewood).  The great thing about mahogany is it's warmth and "natural compression" that smooths out your right hand technique - whether you strum or play fingerstyle - all the notes seem to blend in to form a warm beautiful tone; and the magical combination with the spruce top brings clarity and volume.  Mahogany Jumbo guitars are perfect for providing a "base" for recording or live projects. The LR Baggs VTC (volume/tone control) is a great addition to help you dial in the exact tone you're looking for if you need to plug in for live or studio sessions. (cool tip: if you're recording, use two channels - one for the LR Baggs ,and then throw a condenser mic about 3" from the12th fret....then balance it out in the mix!).  The nitrocellulose lacquer finish looks amazing and will gracefully age giving you an amazing legacy guitar for your collection.

A few other quick "sidebar" notes that we should bring to your attention: J45 guitars have a shorter 24.75" scale length (same as a Les Paul Electric guitar).  For the player, this brings an entirely different string "feel".  The tension of the string "at pitch" is entirely different and provides an amazing tactile playing experience; the string gauge will feel instantly "lighter" and the string vibration totally different than the 25.5" scale length of most other acoustic guitars. This along with a slim taper neck and 12" fingerboard radius gives this an extremely comfortable playing experience.

Top Wood: Sitka Spruce      Back & Side Wood: Mahogany     Weight:4.2lbs     Serial: 22814026

Some notes per Gibson:

The J-45™ is the best-selling Gibson acoustic guitar model of all time. Nicknamed "The Workhorse" and first introduced in 1942, this iconic acoustic has become the cornerstone of its round-shoulder, dreadnought line. World-renowned for its full, balanced expression, warm bass, and excellent projection, the J-45 has been refined to carry this legacy to new heights. The Gibson J-45 Standard delivers a sound with incredible dynamic range, warm mids, and a tight, punchy bass due in part to its round-shoulder body and sides that are made from solid mahogany and its solid Sitka spruce top; it's a classic tonewood recipe that is ideal for all musical styles. The mahogany neck has a comfortable and fast-playing SlimTaper™ profile and is topped with a rosewood fretboard that is outfitted with 20 standard frets and adorned with simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays. The neck is fitted to the body with a compound dovetail joint, ensuring outstanding tonal transfer and sustain. The traditional rosewood belly-up bridge is outfitted with a TUSQ® saddle and bridge pins. A low-friction TUSQ nut, along with the quality Grover® Rotomatic® tuners, ensures solid tuning stability, so you can spend more time playing and less time tuning up. The J-45 Standard is equipped with an L.R. Baggs™ VTC under-saddle pickup and active preamp, so it is stage and studio-ready from the moment you take it out of the included hardshell case.
