The Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 was born in 1993, a natural evolution from the Dragon series - PRS’ first 22 fret set-neck guitar. The neck pickup positioning in the Custom 22 was an immediate hit with players looking for a more “vintage” neck pickup tone than could be achieved with the Custom 24. The neck pickup placement where the 24th fret would otherwise be located added a new dimension of rich harmonic content, plus a new variety of tones when combining, or coil-splitting the pickups.
The core Custom 22s feature Mahogany bodies with figured Maple tops, paired with Mahogany necks in a Pattern neck carve. 85/15 pickups with 5-way blade switching offer a variety of extended range humbucker and single-coil blended tones. Excellent tuning stability is provided by the PRS Phase III locking tuners in combination with the PRS Gen III Patented Tremolo bridge. From this basic Custom 22 configuration, you can move up to Moore Guitars Exclusive Wood Library and 10-top options for even more exotic wood combinations – plus lefty versions! And for electric players seeking a rich acoustic sound, the Custom 22 Piezo is a perfect choice.
All American-made at the PRS facility in Stevensville, Maryland, the Custom 22 delivers a wide sonic palette for performing and recording guitarists alike.
